Hi folks. I just wanted to say "hello" to everyone as I recently stumbled over The Literature Network and a great collection of e-texts.

My name is Matt C and I'm generally into classic and gothic supernatural fiction. My favourite authors are M.R. James, J. Sheridan Le Fanu, Charles Dickens and H.P. Lovecraft. I'm currently reading the two Penguin collections of M.R. James edited by S.T. Joshi and will be following with his three volume collection of Lovecraft.

Meanwhile, I hope Admin won't mind me mentioning my new Yahoo reading group called Fireside Frights where we read and discuss classic ghost and horror short stories, with a featured "Author of the Week". The group's only been going for a few days. I'll certainly include a link to The Literature Text at Fireside as it will come in extremely useful when we need to find an online text.

Cheers for now.

Matt

Welcome Sir. Hope you have a nice stay. (Do I sound like a hotel attendant? Well good, 'cause I'm trying to be. :p)

Goth is my thing, Matt, but I'm not fond of Supernatural. I watch the show, though. :p Pardon.

Penguin is the best, in my experience, when it comes to classic novels, and they're cheap too.

:) :) :)

Thanks for the welcome. Poe may well indeed feature as an Author of the Week - it's up to readers who they nominate to be included in the monthly poll! I have at least one member who I know is a Poe fan. :p

I'm going to have a scout around some of the discussions here for a bit and join in, and want to delve deeper into the online texts.

I've now added this site in the Fireside links.

Cheers, Matt.

Welcome aboard. I read J. Sheridan le Fanu's Carmilla a few years back and it still gives me the creeps as I'm a fan of the old gothic style of writing. Started rading Uncle Silas here on the forum awhile back but eyestrain sets in easily and I cheated and looked up the ending--the heroine just wasn't getting to Silas fast enough. Wildside Press publishes a magazine named after Lovecraft--up to issue 3 at least. I gave my #1 to my son because he likes the horror stuff MORE then I do. If you like Lovecraft you MUST read Clark Ashton Smith--the two corresponded with each other overa number of years.

Rich (but I'm really poor)
