I thought it might be fun to start a thead to make up some new nicknames for forum members. Pendragon has already suggested "Cookie" for Schokokeks in the girls thread, and ShoutGrace has been bestowed with "Shouty" by me, and called ShortGrace by Aimus and Nightshade. What do you guys think? :D

*edit* I forgot my pal "Love Monkey" (Aimus---sorry about that Aim. :D:p )

Works for me. "Robin" has been my moniker for convenience virtually since I came here - any other ideas?

I vote we call Shannanigan "Tennis Ball" in honor of her...courtside appearance.

Well for convenience sakes I think most have dubbed Virgil Virg and PenDragon Pen. Makes sense.

Haha... I'm notorious among my online pals for butchering names--especially male ones--into monikers more suited for love interests or small, cuddly animals. Shorten to a single syllable, then add "-ie" on the end, doubling the final consonant of shortened name if necessary. Jakkie, Revvie, Durrie, Bearie... I'm not sure why, I just do. I've refined getting on people's nerves to a science. ^_^

I don't know if calling Pendragon "Pen" is such a good idea, considering that we have a Pensive here. Then again, "Pend" is easily confused with TEND.

kathycf
11-29-2006, 08:32 PM
Perhaps we should use Summer's method for Pen (and maybe some of the other guys)

Pendie
Robinhood300ie
TENDie.

WEll maybe not, but Pendie actually works. Wht if we substitute the "ie" with a "y"?

Pendy
TENDY
Robbyhoody3000y...the possibilities are endless. Virgy, Cuppy (Cuppajoe) ect...

Virgy is pretty cute, I bet he'd love that.

I heard the term 'turniphead' the other day and couldn't help but think of Aimus. ;)

I'm sorry, but that would be Shoutgace He himself said there is only one 'R in his name.

*edit* I forgot my pal "Love Monkey" (Aimus---sorry about that Aim. :D:p )
Love monkey! :D Although I'm not a monkey, I do like my new nickname Kathy, I don't have one for you yet, I like Kathy way to much to give you a nickname. :)

Schokokeks is Choco Cookie, because she's so very similar to one. :p Cookie, Choco cookie. Such a good name for someone who calls herself schokokeks. I used to be addicted to those type of cookies. I still love 'em.

Night has a lot of nicknames too, but somehow I always end up calling her silly or something similar, I wonder why

That's about it for nichnames, ofcourse I have a nichname for just about everyone, but I'm not going to list them all here, if you are interested in finding out, just ask :)

Pendragon
11-30-2006, 02:33 AM
Well, I call little brother Robin "Archer" sometimes, and Toni is correct Pensy and I go by "Pen" and "Pensy". I used to call Kathy my dear "Dead Undying" but we won't go there. "Kat", maybe? We have "Cap'n Stan" of course for Stanislaw, and Kelly is "Sprout". I've always called Subterranean just "Sub", she doesn't seem to mind. I believe I was first to call Madhuri "Maddie". Maybe we could suggest something and see if the person will accept it or decline. They can always say "Call me Ishmael." you know!

Uum let me see, I call Virgil "Virg", Pendragon "Pen",
Pensive "Pensy",Kathycf "Kat", Madhuri "Maddie".
With my nick name, everyone usually calls me Oz. Actually my name Ozeed is my nickname spelt backwards that friends and family call me.

A Nightgown (also called a nightie or sometimes nighty) is a usually loosely hanging item of nightwear for women. Its length may vary from hip-length(babydoll) to floor-length. A nightgown is manufactured of e.g. cotton, silk, satin, or nylon. It may be decorated with lace appliqués or embroidery at cups and hem.

I can't remember having used nicknames for other forum members very often here, except that I called Pensive Pensy a couple of times (do you mind ?), and I think I was one of the persons reducing Nightshade to a piece of clothing - I promise I won't do it again, Night :D.

Laindessiel
11-30-2006, 01:56 PM
Although Laind is okay, I prefer more to be called Lain. Just sounds more subtle....and feminine...The "D" in the end makes it macho.

I'll stick to Uncle Virg, (sorry Toni. You'll call him Uncle Virgy, I don't mind..). I call Pensive Pense, RobinHood3000 Rob, The Dragon Pen, kathycf Kathy, Madhuri Mads, Kilted Exile Kilt, Aimus Sage Aim, Subterranean Sub, Miss Tenderness Miss T. or Taleen, Ozeed Oz, Whiffling Pin Mr. Whiffling Pin (I just thought that I'm not that close to him to call him Whiff. Yet.). And a whole others. :)

I can't shorten Shoutgrace, Schokokeks and Dramasnot, respectably though. I call Dramasnot Drame, although that makes as much sense as me affording to go to Mars anytime now..:p

Hehehe!!! I'm not fond of using "ie" oy "y" and connecting it to the word, it's Toni's style...But ofcourse when I say Toni, it doesn't mean Toni-ie or Toni-y or worse Tony!

I like to call the PAM plain Tend because there's simply no other way of putting it! Or would you want to be called "TENDY"?

Oh hey, "TENDY", Manny Pacquiao ended the most talked-about trilogy in boxing since that Ali-Frasier match-up! And he was with a slight fever then! But I admire Morales for being a sport; he held Manny's hands up when Manny was announced the winner...Humble...

 Actually Lainy, I was a bit dissapointed the fight ended so soon, but it was still good while it lasted. I like both fighters and was glad to see them fight once more, Pacquiao looked very sharp he was definitely the better of the two during that fight he was so on top of his game.

Cookie, or Schoky, all fine with me .
Yeah ! "Cookie. Choco cookie." I'm the real Bond :p
 I like you much better than the "real" Bond, James Bond.

Nicknames in offline time: Kat (as Oz ;)says,) Kath, and er...Kitty  My dad calls me that sometimes, like Miss Kitty.

Here I have used Night for Nightshade, Pen for Pendragon, Aim for Aimus and Pensy for Pensive. You're right Night (hey that rhymes!) Nighty does sound like a nightgown. A friend of mine tried having lingerie parties to supplement her income (sort of like a Tupperware party) and we used to call them "Naughty Nighty" parties.

Hey I like Lainy! You can call me Lainy!! :thumbs_up Sweet...

Yep, Pacquiao was ever ready. But I think one reason why Morales lost was that although he lost, what, 40 lbs (?) the last 4 months (10 lbs. being the last week of his training) and acquired the service of 7 of the world's best dieticians, I think his body didn't cope so well with the fast transition from 170 lbs. to 129 lbs that ended up losing his usual fighting stamina. Not the best time to get sick, he says. I reckon his getting married months before the fight ruined his chances on winning because he gets easily distracted (with the love bug...you know how looove is. :D ) and was still on the Honeymoon stage....

I didnt really enjoy the last one, honestly it's time for Morales to stop. Between the fights with Barerra and Pacquiao he is done, he was great to watch but he is a shadow of what he used to be.

True enough, Morales is not the fighter he used to be, I actually didn't think he was going to have another fight with Pacquiao. He just was not up to the task this time around, he got hit quite a few times where he jsut plain didn't see it coming. He got a few good punches in where you thought maybe he could pull something off but the Pac Man dispersed those few moments pretty quickly.

There was someone on a different site that started to call me Iddy and it drove me absolutely nuts, I was completely horrified.

As far as real life nicknames, Roots was the main one because of an accident I had with the roots of a tree which left me marked for life. Another one was Cricket because I had really long, skinny legs when I was younger...I mean really long and really skinny but I don't like either of those anymore than I did Iddy.

He just had to redeem himself from the humiliation from the fact that he lost his last 8 matches, from what I heard.

He just was not up to the task this time around, he got hit quite a few times where he jsut plain didn't see it coming. He got a few good punches in where you thought maybe he could pull something off but the Pac Man dispersed those few moments pretty quickly.

Taken those I-could-have-punched-that-pug-face-in-an-instant time away milliseconds before El Terible's brain can think of taking any action. And we could see from his face that he was not very healthy (pale, actually) and not as energetic as he used to be. In short, he wasn't himself but that's not a reason for Pacquiao not to take credit for the fight. Erik's thinking of retiring already though. It's okay because he's made a name for himself in the Boxing World. I'm not sure if he's included in the Boxing Hall of Fame but he sure deserves to! He's a legend!:thumbs_up

Well, if you like. I make no promises about emerging from the ocean wearing a white bikini though. :DLet's see, that would be the film Dr. No, correct? Do me a favor, Kat. Read the original book Dr. No by Ian Fleming. You'll think the bikini extremly modest afterward! The nicknames are on a roll! ;)

Interesting. I tend to read her name as 'Dramas- not', rather than 'Drama-snot'

me too! Great minds think alike (unless you prefer the less flattering German saying: "Two idiots, one thought")

Sub, why do you want to be called Arthur?

I' ve just remembered I've got two more RL nicknames, but you'd probably have a hard time pronouncing them:
1. Beutel (eu = roughly: oy as in boy)
2. Fauli (au= roughly ou as in house)

Robin, who or what or when are the Goonies? there's another Data?
See, I've always told you Robin is Chinese :) *nobody ever listens to me*

The Goonies happens to be a 1980's movie that, though fraught with flaws, became a classic thanks to its intensely endearing characters and its adventure-centered plot. Hmmph.

Another interesting conclusion, this time from Sleepy - will you at least tell me where this one came from? Lain refuses to disclose her research.

By the way, Pen, congratulations on your 7000 posts!!Hey, Thanks Bro. And if perchance thou art Chinese as these say, no wonder thou art brother to a Dragon! But why wouldst be ashamed o' it? A fine and noble race are they, and a great civilization had they long before any rose in the East. And tis said that The Native Americans whose blood runs in these veins came here across the land bridge from Asia. My spirit guide, the cougar, would say that he who is blind because he refuses to open his eyes or his mind is indeed foolish. :)

My theory is that if the Chinese had decided to try and conquer the world 3000 years ago, they totally could've.

And of course, the standard ambiguity: I may be Chinese, and I may not be...

You can't be chinese. The hey day of imperial China was 1000 to 1500 years ago. Not 3000. That is way to long ago. Any chinese would have known that. :D :p So I've ruled out over one billion people that is not Robin. ;)

Well Im pretty sure he is at least linked to america in some pretty concrete way but then theres the whole lets ramble on in spanish thing, he does somtimes. I think that should be taken into account. And Im sure he said somewhere somthing that made me go Oi! but I thought you were an american, havent you always lived in the states and the answer to the second part was no.

Course he could just be an expat or just one of those people who are in one of the numerous american schools around the world ( although that wouldnt explain the seemingly endless supply of american comics).
And thats my 2 shillings worth.

nowhere :) it's just one of my nutty ideas. (another one is "Scher is 27"). But as you can see, it's been picked up eagerly by those you like to speculate about our mysterious archer's identity ---> it's another patch in your cloak of secrecy :)

Night, very interesting evidence. But the "let's ramble on in Spanish thing" doesn't need to mean he's Spanish.
I mean, Schoko, me and lots of other non-native speakers on LitNet ramble on in English all the time but it's not our first language.
He could have learned it as a foreign language. If his Spanish is any good, that would mean that he can't be English then ;) (as in English ppl can't be bothered to learn foreign languages)

PS: Robin said Pffffffffft = he's German (no one else could pronounce it). there you are.

heeeeeheeee, weheeeee, don't shoot me Robin.

Schweinehund? i know what that means! pighound, we call my dog that since she is a very porcine hound indeed. we also call her sausage for the same reason...

I'm the one originally from North Carolina, in fact, I still don't live but about an hour and a half drive from the border if that! I usually vacation on Cape Hattaras, with such famous places as Roanoake Island (The Lost Colony), Kitty Hawk (Wright Brothers), and Ocracoke Island (Blackbeard the Pirate), and The Graveyard of the Atlantic. From any given point on shore, you are looking over at least 50 sunken ships. My favorite beach has a Nazi submarine sticking up off shore!

I vote we call Shannanigan "Tennis Ball" in honor of her...courtside appearance.

DT is cool. so you can call me DT and Schoko will call me Fauli (lazybones) and we'll have a great time confusing everyone :) what a coicnidence, I've just posted a new story in which the line "double doulbe toil and trouble" plays a role :) (cf. *sleep+snore= an energy-efficient sleep watch. I'll keep you up while I'm on stand-by myself :)
*translate English to German and German to English
*I'm house-broken
