hi im new here. i'm doing an essay on the importance of past in the great gatsby. any ideas for or against?...please help...
Gatsby lives in the past when all the other characters live in the future. He is trying to rekindle the past by getting his love Daisy back. If Gatsby had not lived in the past he would not have died and the awful disasters at the end would not have occurred

Gatsby’s emotional frame is out of sync with the passage of time. His nervousness about the present and about how Daisy’s attitude toward him may have changed causes him to knock over Nick’s clock, symbolizing the clumsiness of his attempt to stop time and retrieve the past.
Jay Gatsby is James Gatz in a pink suit driving a yellow car... is the way I see it.
