Ni Hao! Welcome to LitNet! You're from China? How interesting. I've been studying Chinese for a year now and find it to be a very difficult but fascinating language. How are you finding your studies?

I hear many English speakers say that Chinese is rather difficult.
Well, this is quite true. And i can not guarantee that every Chinese man can understand his language thoroughly, since it is quite sophisticated.
And as i now put my most efforts in English, i find my Chinese poorer.
But if any of you have difficult learning Chinese, i hope i can help you as best as i can.

Welcome to the forum! Glad to have you with us. Actually, I will be spending a semester next year studying abroad in Xi'an. Do you have any advice for an American who has never visited China? I would appreciate any tips.

That sounds great Higley. What will you be studying, and can you handle the language?

As you know, China is a large country. And i strongly recommend you come to china with a friend or a guide who can speak Chinese, because it is very inconvenient if you can't speak English and people around you don't understand you. Besides, take a map with you, especially with the map of Xi'an.

Virgil, I will be studying fine arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Xi'an. I'm now an illustration major with a fine arts minor. About the language: I can't understand it, but I've been assured by several people, one being the asst. provost at my college, that the professors can speak English. Also, the classes will consist of painting and drawing, which fortunately don't necessitate a solid grip of the language. There will be difficulties certainly, but that will be one of the things that will make it an experience! I'm very excited. :)
Godhelpme2, I unfortunately will be traveling to China only with my good friend (who will also be studying abroad), as it is an exchange program with only two students coming from each school. But thank you for the advice about the map; I shall certainly carry it wherever I go! :)
