Imagine: your doctor informs you that your next birthday will be your last one. :bawling: but don't fret: because you've been such a good person, you're going to go out with a bang. you get to invite any band to perform live at your party! the question for this thread is, which band would you invite and why? should you consider your audience's listening interest or say to hell with them?!...i mean, it is the last birthday of your life!

(Yes...you can pick a band with members no longer alive---we are going to resurrect them for your one-night special occasion!)  enjoy!

i'll start---I'm inviting U2! they have a little something in their repertoire for everyone. then again, i'm going out with a psychedelic bang---i'm calling on my man, Jimi, Jimi Hendrix!

Pink Floyd! And you wouldn't have to resurrect anyone, just get them back together...which I think might be an even harder task than resurrection. And I would pick them for my own selfish reasons, because they are awesome and David Gilmour is a rock god and if anyone doesn't like it, they're just going to have to suck it up. :p

Well....maybe Bob Dylan because I loooove Bob Dylan  . But I've always told people when I die I want a wake, so maybe I should invite one of my favorite bands 'The Pogues' to play and we could have a living wake (a wakeful wake, if you will).

Dream Theater. If you've heard them, you probably understand why.

But, Idril, Syd Barrett is dead! Don't you even care that Syd Barrett's dead? You could resurrect him, and you don't even care?:bawling:

I'd have Radiohead.

Pink Floyd!
I second Idril here. My other choices will be The Beatles, Eagles and Linkin Park. :D I would like any of these.

Well...yes...I suppose he could come up for a song or two. I admit I had forgotten about him and I'm very ashamed of that.  They seem almost like two separate groups, with Syd and without and I listen to the 'without' stuff a lot more often but it would be fun to hear them play Bike or Jugband Blues or of course See Emily Play so I'll make sure to specify he can comes too. :p .....Are we able to make the setlist or does the band pick the songs?

They may be old now, but they're still the greatest rock 'n roll band in the world, The Rolling Stones.

is that extremely large font for all us old folks who still like the rolling stones but can't really see very well anymore, eh where's my ear trumpet? :p

ok- how 'bout this------Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Chet Baker, Tito Puente, Antonio Carlos Jobim and Thelonious Monk. Tom Waits can come to, but he's designated scotch drinking buddy while we listen to what melodies those giants come up with.

Hey that sounds pretty cool too. I wonder if their egos would lt them play together.

What do you mean, "since it's my last birthday?" Are you thinking of departing into the great beyond this year?:alien:

Depending on my mood--The Kingston Trio for the innocent times; Credence Clearwater Revival for the fun times and Steppenwolf for the dark times. But then again I'm always uncomfortable at parties even the church ones.

Oh I didn't catch that. I thoght it meant the one that just past, but that wouldn't make any sense.

i would like to listen to the beyond who is the top band in my country..however, the key singer who died in 1993 because of an accident... i really miss their performances...

Eisley! Definitely. Their beautiful, melodic, haunting songs would be perfect! Some have got enough twang and bounce in them for a party, too.
Besides, I'd just really love the chance to meet my musical and fashion heroes!

King Crimson's 73-74 lineup.

11-26-2006, 01:39 PM
I would definetely have The Beatles ! I love "Let it Be". It probably wouldn't be such a big-bang party, but guests could go over to Virgil's last party after I'm gone, if they need some ROOOOCK :D.

I have two-three names in mind but it'd have to be Depeche Mode since it's been my favourite band for the past 8 years... with a lot of other favourites during the way but never above it.
Second choice would be The Cure, which I have never seen live so being the last chance it would be good too... Hmmm...

Heh, but how will you go to both? :p

I would get the Rat Pack to perform. Or at least Dean Martin. Or Oingo Boingo, playing "Dead Man's Party" last.

I could never pick "a" band . . . I want it all . . .
There are so many songs I like by so many groups that I couldn't pick, and hey, as for the ones that have already died, assuming we 'go' to the same place, I won't need to ressurect them, will I??? :D
But, then, knowing it's my last birthday, would I want to pick something new, something I haven't heard, seeing as how it's my LAST b-day?
Leave it to me to start living if I ever hear that I'm dying . . .
But to answer in some sort of fashion, yeah, I'd go for the Beatles, Eagles, Stones, or U2
jon1jt . . . whatever made you think of this??? :)

Evanescence and LinkinPark

Because i`m somewhat obsessed with Amy Lee, and I adore Mike Shinoda.

I'd pick Skillet because they are my favorite band in the whole world, they've influenced many decisions in my life, have been around through all the good and bad times (musically of course) and anyone who would go to my party would absolutely love them - I know this because I have not taken a person to a skillet concert who did not ultimately love them by the end of the night.

What better way to kick off your last birthday party ever than to rock out and do a little head banging?!

GimmyDiamond
12-27-2006, 09:07 PM
hey grace86, I didn't even think of skillet, but then again I only know their Collide album (as far as I know). But if I ever did have them, I would ask the powers that be, if it could be a double feature of Skillet and Thousand Foot Krutch. I know their Phenomenon and Art of Breaking albums, love the last track on Art of Breaking, Breathe You In. So, if a double feature is a go, then these two would definitely be a possibility . . .
Nice work . . .

right now i would seriously invite Iron and Wine because his music inspires me and since it's my last birthday i want to write some poems before i'm gone!
i'd also invite another cool band called Stars. they're out of Canada and they go from electronica to folky and with them i'll die a happy guy. :D

I think I would include Veruca Salt in my invitation because every party needs some 'angry chick rock'. ;)

Are you talking about Extraodinary Machine? That cover is greenish, it has peas on it or something organic like that. The song I bought that album for is Parting Gift,

Oh you silly stupid past time of mine
You were always good for a rhyme
And from the first, to the last time, the signs
Said 'Stop' - but we went on whole-hearted
It ended bad, but I love what we started

Courtney Love scares me. :p

I have the Breeders, just bought some as a matter of fact. I haven't heard any L7 though, I'll have to check that out. Again, Courtney Love scares me, so therefore, Hole scares me and I'm not too sure about Tori Amos either. Has anyone heard any Angelfish? It's the band Shirley Manson was in before Garbage and I love Garbage but I listened to a couple 30 second clips of their songs and wasn't exactly blown away.

Yes yes, that's the album, green peas or something!!!!!! i dig that song too!!!!!
i forgot what a cutie that fiona apple is! (maybe that's why i really bought her CD!) :p

courtney---i think she's retired and that's not such a bad thing. i used to work for a guy who hung out with her (they'd do drugs together) when she came into the city. she'd call and the secretaries would tell me how high she always was on the phone. ugh.

Mashlin . . . love the song "The Shore" they could play that one song all night and I'd be sooo good with that . . .
But come to think of it, I might prefer Bryan Adams . . . I can honestly say I'll know when I find 'the one' cuz to them I'll be a Bryan Adams song . . . Where Angels Fear to Tread and Inside Out are some of my favourites of his . . . so he can have my last birthday . . .
Oooo, I just thought of the Chili Peppers . . . People in Planes . . . Linkin Park and Billy Talent . . . gimme any of those and I'll be pleased as can be . . . (until I think of someone else next week :D)

Prepare your magic potion (or whatever) you have a lot of ressurection to do!
QUEEN (my first choice) but also NIRVANA or SAVATAGE would do the trick.
To spare you trouble invoking the dead you can also bring me MEGADEATH, PARADISE LOST or MOONSPELL. And THE GATHERING, and CATHEDRAL and CANDLEMASS and ALICE COOPER and BLACK SABBATH and DIO..ok it might look more like a rockwave festival than a birthday party (can i have this pleeeeease!!!)
