I'm currently re-reading “Animal Farm,” and this just caught my attention. Do you think Orwell was having a dig at British policy or citizenry by specifically mentioning Irish animals?
What do you make of its inclusion?

I do not think British policy would have eluded Orwell's sensitiveness to any oppression, it is only too natural to be boiling in the same pot as every other theme of the like matter. Its inclusion again speaks of Orwell's lack of any "patriotic idolatry" and "state values", if not for anything else he is the author who never equates totalitarianism with easterns politics only to serve the western... without thinking in political categories as of course the spirit of time dictates. Orwell has proved to be a writer, largely surpassing the mere writing, and what you mention is again stressing it
/I have not noticed it while reading I must admit/
