-Roots Of Thought-

Within the time that has past
hidden in forgotten memory

the love I so blindly took for granted
A foolish action achieved its foolish end

The tree in my heart begins to whither
slowly at first
change is negligible

the falling leaves are being drawn to the ground's embrace
what thoughts and stories have they borne witness too?
what memories of mine have been lost along with them?

The falling snow blankets the ground
Serene yet all I see is an endless sea of snow
My sorrow bleached by denial
the seemingly calm surface belies the tempest within me

I long for the spring to come again
the old tree of my heart
Uprooted by the ravaging winds of time
has been gone long, since that day my world fell
bathed in both darkness and faint light
I walk amidst the twilight in my soul

Night has yet to come
and its is then
when I feel that morning is so far off

I stand watch, over where the tree used to be
pondering the whereabouts of the person who once was me
hoping someone will find him
but perhaps that is a fool's dream

Friends....
the only light in my life that has never gone out
it begins to flicker and dance before my eyes
perhaps the winds of change will do away with it once and for all

But whatever it was we had, it always seemed to be enough
To have lived for you gave me purpose and certainty
But alas, such a thing is not something which will last an eternity

Having cultivated my hopes and dreams and with the will you've unknowingly given me
I plant a seed

Perhaps one day it will grow into that magnificent tree that used to be
Or perhaps it will wither before the night is done

Uncertainty you see is something that sadly seems to be
so synonymous with me

One day, I will be free of it, but like everything else in my life
exactly when
is up to me - Greg Padilla

I hope you enjoyed it. (Hoping more so I didn't break any forum rules or what not see, I'm quite the avid poster.)

I really enjoyed that analogy - you know how snow could offer a picture of serenity but actually be hiding much turmoil.

Good poem!!

Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Funny thing is that I've never seen actual snow in my entire life.
