among those in whom we perceived perfection
we find ourselves finding mistakes
first steps of childhood are sad as these
tortured by the inadvertent demise of our fathers,
our futures grow into imperfect images
altered photos of their pasts
pick up the pencils and paints
pictures of ourselves we try to repaint
the painting we do is slow and painful
paint the perfection we desire
realizations of mistaken strokes
clashing colors collide with canvas
time after time, time slips away
open our eyes for beauty we envisioned
our reality is a colorless version,
we’ve betrayed the bargains we made
