View Full Version : Why can't we...
discuss current political events? I don't mean to provoke anyone, but I am just wondering why this important issue is completely ignored? It is almost impossible to discuss religion without discussing political events, and I think that we live in the world in which these issues simply cannot be ignored. I would support some censorship to keep things under control, but I think that most of us should be responsible and mature enough to be able to discuss these issues without crossing any lines. Could you at least consider this proposition? Maybe give it a try for a certain period of time and see how things go? It shouldn't be hard to revoke that priviledge:) should things go out of control. Thank you.

May I suggest a google search for "political discussion forum" (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=%22political+discussion+forum%22&btnG=Google+Search)
There are tons of sites on the `net where you can discuss current politics.
This is not one of them.
Admin did not set this site up for the discussion of current politics.
The moderators here don't want to deal with current political discussions because they *always* require a *lot* of moderation.
Yes it is difficult to discuss some religious texts or topics without touching on current politics but so far it has worked out fine.
The site is just excellent without politics :D

Amra, how are you? long time no see:(
I'm afraid that that Logo is right on this point. I mean politics is always one of my interset and I'd love to discuss it with the members in here, but then when I see how some religious discussions go,I assum that politics will be much trouble>>not for us>>but for the moderators.

Sorry, I will never allow political discussion here. It really does just get people angry. I'm seen it happen on other forums. Plus, this is the literature network, not the politics network, and there is always the risk of the literature discussions ending up overshadowed.

Amra, if you can remember, i asked something about Islam recently declaring that I'm not interested in politic. Somebody mentioned Iraq and America, it went to politic and thread was closed next day after couple quite insulting posts...
No politics!

I agree with this. Politics just makes people mad and some of us come to places like this to avoid them. Sometimes I don't want to ever hear about it, I have places I can go if I do. But I am pleased this site doesn't allow it.

yes, politics should remain taboo on this website due to its knack for causing resentment among people who otherwise could be best buddies. i'm surprised there hasn't been any war in the religion section, though.

There have been some rather heated discussions there but they're either removed or closed :)

Occasionally, politics will find their way here because that is the world we live in (and then those posts are deleted!) But I like LitNet because we have to respect each other and that is why I stay. I almost left recently because there were some threads that I kind of alienated me but I think that problem has been taken care of. I think the moderators do a great job and if I ever inadvertantly post something that crosses a line, please let me know and I will certainly correct it because I enjoy coming here and interacting (even if it mostly to play games ;)!!!
