The Forum & Site will be moving to a new server today. You will experience some downtime. It will look like the forum is closed while the new DNS propagates through the Internet.

Anyways, if you want, you can get a jump start on this.

Search in your C:Windows Directory for a file called "hosts" no extension, just "hosts" open it up and put in this line

209.85.114.118 <tab here> www.online-literature.com

Then save.

That is telling your computer what the new IP address is for the website. Also, don't type <tab here> hit the tab key on your keyboard.

Don't do this yet. Save this information or write it down and then when the site stops working for you (it'll say the forum is down for upgrading and not let you post or do anything) do this.

It might not work right away, it will still take me atleast a half hour to move the database. However once that half hour is over you'll be at the new server and can post again, whereas instead it could be 4-8 hours.

If you're reading this follow up you're successfully viewing the new server, congratulations.

By the way, for those who care about such things. The new server is a dual dual-core Amd Opteron with 4gig of ram. I might end up increasing it to 8gigs though.

It seems faster at the moment (recently it was rather slow).

Thank you, Chris!

Hey Chris, once the update is over, do we need to delete the IP address we added in our host file?

You can, but you do not have to.

IF the server changes again in the future it will cause a problem, but it isn't likely to change again for atleast 2 years.

I meant -- will it cause any problem if it remained there -- I guess not, for two years :)

Thanks!!

In fact, until the server moves, it may even help you access the site quicker.

Is there any way to do that on a mac? I'm getting around by using the IP number as the adress at the moment, put it can be rather slow.
