Well, I'm Ukrainian and quite proud of it although I'm quite ashamed to not be able to tell you much....especially without hints and just sort of coming up with random facts.

We were under communist rule by the Soviet Union, and were generally treated quite poorly by the heads due to our nation being quite bountiful as far as farmland in the USSR went and them wanting it for the main of Russia. Umm, in 1991 we gained our independence, I can't give you the exact date. Our head of state (I don't know if it's Prime Minister or President) is Viktor Yuschenko. We use the Cyrillic Alphabet and have our own langauge (Ukrainian). The Capital is Kiev, with other larger cities being Odessa, L'vov and Kharkov (off the top of my head). Our flag is a blue top half and a yellow bottom half. The name of our national anthem is 'Ukraine's Glory has not diminshed' (I think). Umm, our National soccer team's captain was/is Andriy Shevchenko, and we participated in our first World Cup this year.

Donetsk or Donbas is strong metalurg base, with Rinat Ahmetov on oligarh's position. Rural land, called ''granary if the Europe''-in my translation:D Their language is similar with Russian, although they understand Russians and Russians don't understnd them. They were allways unders Soviet's, and today there is also strong political tendency to go close with Russians, although 10 000 000 Ukrainans died from starving in late 30's, just after the Russian civil war. It's called holodrom, if I remember well.
