Hey, I'm new to this site, and actually to this novel. I'm looking to begin reading War and Peace very soon, and I am wondering what people consider to be the best translation so far? thanks!

Hi I am in the middle of war and peace. I have been meaning to read it for years but always assumed it would be hard work. Other people thought the same because it has not been taken out of my local library for two years prior to my borrowing it. What a waste - It is un-put-downable! A great read I would recommend it to anyone so long as they have a lot of spare time on their hands, which I have not.

It is published by penguin classics. The translation is by Rosemary Edmonds - it flows like poetry.

As of today, I am a newbie to this site. As to which translation of War and Peace to read....[which I haven't read yet...so don't expect expert opinion..:yawnb: )]...I am anxiously awaiting the translation by Richard Pevear and Larissa Volohonsky to be released Oct 16, 2007. I am not recommending this for any other reason than I have enjoyed the other translations by these 2 so far and I am looking forward to reading this book. If anyone can suggest a better starting point...please do!
