For Woeful Painter

The painter sat all day in his upstairs loft,
And stared at a white piece of canvas.
Dreaming a dream of a lady so soft,
Her face, her form, her long blonde tresses.
Finally the canvas revealed to him his dream,
And he reached for his pallet and brush and began.
The paint flowed to the canvas as if in a stream,
For the glory of art had taken possession of the man.
People never realize that the artist creates his masterpiece,
By simply following the image in his mind.
He removes every thing that does belong or believe,
And the painting or statue that is left is what is designed.
Be not Woeful, Painter! Wherever you are:
