I have never attempted poetry before or since and this has been in my scrap book for the last 2 years. The thing is I know nothing about the structure or rules of poetry so would accept any criticism. This poem means a lot to me and though dark and jumbled I hope you can appreciate its significance. Please let me know what you think.

Bathed in a darkness
Drowned in depression
The shadows of true love within
The torture of silence
Demands my confession
The soul to relinquish its sin

The blood that’s my tears
The flesh that’s my veil
The bones that restrict my submission
The mind that betrayed me
The heart that gave in
Crave pain as a lullaby to my slow dissention

My lungs scream for air yet I loath to breathe
My fingers clasp warmth
Your presence would leave
This cold that ignites me
The heat that stings skin
Remind me of memories that haven’t yet been

Oh, pain, my sweet solace
Embrace me in chains
Cloak me with bruisers the colour of shame
Consume me with fervour
That trembles my soul
And set me on fire for once and for all.
