hey
I'm writting an essay on the short story "The Masque of the Red Death" and the connection of the story with Edgar's life.
Well so what I thought is that since his mother, brother, foster mother and first wife died because of tuberculosis (the Red Death), that might be why he used the Red Death in his story.
I don't know i f u guys read the story but it is a really good one.... (as al of his wokrs ;) ).... when u read it the first time it seams kind of shellow... but when u analyse it and look at it closer it has a lot to do with his life.
So I'm also thinking that he might be empling that he is the duke (who the story is about).
So if u have anymore ideas for me on how it good be intrepreted.... just reply to this please!!!

Heads up. TB is not commonly called the red death. In fact, that term came into use for the disease after Poe published his work. Also, the obvious differences are time here. Poe's red death would consume its victum in a matter of 30 minutes where as TB takes years.

There is a lot of material out there about the biographical aspect this particular Poe story, however, there is a lot of autobiographical content in most of his stories. Maybe you should look into that.

Also, I think it would be difficult to academically address this particular story without analysing the importance of time and specifically how it is represented symbolically and literally. This too pertains to Poe's life.
