DREAMING AWAKE
It’s too deep to hold inside,
so it’s on this piece of paper, at 1 o’clock in the morning
that I pour out my heart, and deepest thoughts.
My love for him I cannot explain, it keeps me laying awake at night thinking about him.
I stayed awake watching him sleep,
Studying the face of my love, his eyebrows, nose, his sweet smell
the way his eyelashes, and his lips curl
I want to kiss them,
but I’m afraid I might wake him,
so I satisfy myself with watching him sleep peacefully.
They say no one is perfect, yet as I continue to admire him, I can’t see any flaw in him
My love for him has made him perfect in my eyes.
It is in the middle of the night that I look at my dream
But realize that I’m not sleeping
No, I’m wide-awake and he’s real, not just another dream.
I touch him to make sure, and I feel him
He’s really here next to me
The dream I have dreamed for so long has become reality
Unknowingly I smile, and my heart skips a beat.
I move a bit closer to him and close my eyes in an attempt to sleep
I see the early rays of the sun,
Morning is rising as night is fading
Night has grown old and passed, Morning has come, and I thank my God for the gift he left sleeping next to me
My feelings for him sit at the throne of my heart
This is the night that I have dreamed awake
