View Full Version : The first official LitNet meeting...
...has just taken place! :D
Well, I'm actually wondering if it's the first ever, but it's the first I hear about...
The thing is, me and Nighty happen to be in the same city for our studies, so just a few hours ago we met up and had a chat in a park :):):)
I would have never thought I'd meet anyone from this forum... it's a weird nice feeling

That is really nice, Koa. Maybe it won't feel so strange to be studying in another country if you have a forum friend nearby. Aimus, I will be packing my bags for my visit to you...will I need an oxygen tank or do you have some to spare for us Earthlings?
anybody live in PA? :(

You'll do fine, I've had a big biodome installed, I have a huge forrest in the back garden, so don't worry about the air. :)
The only one I think you'll have to be careful with is my neighbour, she's a bit well, not quite right in the head. ;) :p

i recommend it alot! if you get the chance! i know in the future i'll meet Riesa as well.. it just a thing i owe to myself... at least that is my point of view?.
Ahem...I'm afraid there's no picture...I forgot to take my camera and it's a shame because it was such a nice sunny day (which is probably not that common around here ;)) but I don't know if Nighty would have agreed on a picture, I don't think she ever posted any... Well maybe next time :)
@Weeping: oh ok I didn't know that, I kinda hoped to be the first eheeh ;)

Pennslyvania isn't that far away. Actually I am not sure about the other's location but I know that Virgil is in New York and I believe Pen (when not in Camelot) lives in Pennsylvania as well. Let's make a date to meet in Conneticut, I think that is right in the middle. :D I will be the one wearing a pirate hat.;)
Seriously, it would be nice to meet folks, but I have a terrible insecurity that people (in general) will hate me on site. Silly, I know.

The Tolkien site I used to frequent planned meets all the time, of course they were all in England so I wasn't able to go to any but we did have a small North American one in Minneapolis a couple years ago and it was a great deal of fun. It's always fascinating to see how well you connect in real life. It's a little surreal because you're meeting for the first time, yet you know all kinds of personal details and preferences about the other person and there is a comfort level that doesn't normally exist with people you've just met.

Sorry Aim, my mistake. I meant to type "sight" instead of "site". :)
Thank you for hating my hater that hates me, though. :D
*edit*
yeah, I think it would be fun to meet people when you do know a bit about them and the way they interact with you. Fun, yet a little strange as well.

I'm with Aimus. Anyone that hates you, we hate. Or at least take a strongly violent dislike towards.

Heh, thanks.
Well I did say it was a silly insecurity of mine. I am fairly well liked in my day to day non cyberspace life, yet I still harbor the fear that I am hated. Oh, not hated, but disliked. It is like looking in the mirror and knowing that the face you see is attractive, but still feeling very ugly. I think it is possible to know something on an intellectual level, yet still not feel it to be true. If that makes any kind of sense. Ok, I will stop babbling now.

I know... It's just one of the reasons why we can never hate you :D

Do some more affirmation excercises. Stand in front of the mirror and tell yourself you are liked, you like yourself, and there is no reason to dislike you. Do this every morning, and you'll start accepting the truth soon enough. :)

Surreal is the right word. But I think that already knowing a lot about that person doesn't give any comfort, just the opposite, it makes me feel more nervous and embarrassed. There are people at the moment with whom I have a rather close online friendship but I'd be terrified of meeting...

I felt an initial weirdness but we quickly got into our 'routines' and it was like we had known each other for years, which on some level, of course, we had. That certainly depends on the person though, I will agree to that, there are people from that board I would've been nervous about meeting as well, they just weren't at that particular meeting. :)

Sweet!
I still maintain that if any of you feel like making St. Thomas your next vacation spot, I would be more than happy to give you a tour and take you to the best places to eat, local secret spots, etc...you don't have to spend every day with me, lol, but I just love to meet new people and it would be nice to meet some of the great characters in here!
I'm going to be in Los Angeles from December 8-22...but I dunno if anyone from here is there?

Ok I know its a bit stuffy and boring of me but I wouldnt advise just meeting up with anyone off the interent, when all is said and done you really dont know that much about them.
:D
and if you do go and meet them let more than one person know where your going - and get as much info as possible.
having said all that--- It wont be st thomas's its somewhere with an A, not antiga, an island about 25/35 ( cant rember) how big thats part of the british colonies/eu.

ah, I think I know which one ;) I hava classmates from there! :)
anyways...yeah, I've met people off the internet before, and it's always done in a very public place and both parties bring friends, usually more than one...usually the scary people won't try to meet if those are the parameters, lol. If they do, then usually they and their friends are scary enough for me to go "okay, well, it was nice meeting you, but I've got relatives to go visit..." lol
Thank you for the concern though :D I agree with you totally that it shouldn't be a common practice, dangerous world out there...
