All the symbols in the diagonal (from the bottom-left corner to the upper-right hand corner) are the same...except that of no.90. So, no matter what number you choose initially, after doing the mathematical operations, you arrive at a number in the diagonal.

it got mine wrong....

Mine too.
But then, it said something about a "gray square". There was a blue square.

Same here. I did it twice. I even used the example the second time.

It is always a number on the lower left to upper right diagonal. I just looked at it for a long time, and kept refreshing it, and saw that. It will always be the graphic next to the number 72, for example.
I guess the way that algorithm works you can only get a 9, 18, 36, etc.
Was cool at first, then was wierd, then I got angry, now I'm okay.

wow, that was freaky, It got all of mine right! Scary to think about.

Ok, now it worked. I was using Opera earlier, and the square was blue. Now I'm using Explorer. That bugs me. I want it to be wrong.
I guess you have to end up with a multiple of nine.
I get it!!! All the multiples of nine have the same symbol, and all the symbols change every time!!

How the f*** does it work?!!!

Even when I think of a single digit number, like 3, for instance, and do the subtraction i.e., 3 - 3 = 0 (it's invariably zero when you choose a single digit number) it makes the right guess.
It didn't work when I tried to fake, by just looking at a fugure and pressing the grey square without thinking of a number.

Ah! Now I know. Its always the numbers in the diagonal, from bottom-left to top-right. I really feel like a monkey. he, he, he.....

A two figure number can be written as 10*a +b (for example, 54= 10*5+4, where 5 is a and 4 is b)
10a+b - a - b= 9a
That is why the number is always a multiple of nine.

That makes a lot of sense ^^
I actually think you're avatar's scarier though... lol (@ Shakira)

Tend, it's been explained before on this thread (http://www.online-literature.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18131). ;)

These two threads have been merged. My link was orginally a link to this thread. This current thread is the one which contains the answer to both “tricks.” :D

Whoops! I must have a strong mind. My end number was 81 but the wrong symbol appeared! Go figure.....
