i'd ask Logos - she probably knows when it is written, or if there are copyright laws against putting it on the internet. i just did a qiuck googlesearch and didn't turn it up, but books can be hard to find.
good luck!

John Ernst Steinbeck (http://www.steinbeck.org/MainFrame.html)(February 27, 1902 – December 20, 1968) His estate will indeed have his works under US copyright protection. The rule is usually anything published before 1932 is public domain but his family has recently been awarded rights (http://www.writerswrite.com/writersblog/wblog.php?wblog=613061) for most of them. So.. the major ones at least might never enter the public domain.
This site (http://www.ac.wwu.edu/~stephan/Steinbeck/) has summary and analyses of his works.

Hi, Logos. I see the Peguin Classics edition of this book. I'm not sure why it is considered as "classics" by Penguin. Maybe I should read through the "About Us" section in its webpage to find out.
