Wilfred

What instrument do you play or think is the most superior?

Stanislaw
12-10-2003, 11:36 PM
The violin is the best of course. It is the instrument of intellect and blah bity ...

I play the violin, I like to think I am pretty good. I prefeer the electric violin over the traditional though, It can double as a viola.

Wilfred
12-10-2003, 11:41 PM
I would have to strongly disagree with you there "Stanislaw" the violin is a puny attempt to create what we call "music" the French horn is the most superior instrument, the violin is a mere twig in comparison.

Stanislaw
12-10-2003, 11:43 PM
Week words spoken by the player of a week instrument. The violin is claerly the highest in status, pitch and skill, much better than bent plumbing any day.:D

Wilfred
12-10-2003, 11:49 PM
It is obvious that you are a violin player with your false ideas about music and the horn. Let me help you set things straight. The horn is not a week instrument and is made from quality brass, not leftover rotten firewood like the violin. Besides, when you hear them, it is obvious which is better. For none can possibly compare with the beautiful tone of the horn.

Stanislaw
12-10-2003, 11:51 PM
My firewood could beet your plumbing any day.

we could be at this for a while...

Should I lowere the violins status and offer a draw to the plumbing?

Lol

Wilfred
12-10-2003, 11:52 PM
Admit that the horn is better than the violin. You know it is true dep inside of you.

Stanislaw
12-10-2003, 11:58 PM
You wish, I am not so eisily seduced by the brass side of the force.

Wilfred
12-11-2003, 12:03 AM
That is because you have been hardened to the good things in life from playing all those high gross, screachy notes on the violin. Remember it is never to late to come to the light.

Stanislaw
12-11-2003, 12:05 AM
It is too late for me now... beside the violin has a deeper side aswell. It is a form of zen, I can not betray my master...

Wilfred
12-11-2003, 12:10 AM
You see the violin has you in its grips, you must resist and fight, you must come to the right side.

Stanislaw
12-11-2003, 12:12 AM
But I love it so.

Wilfred
12-11-2003, 12:12 AM
I am very sorry for you that you are so blind.

Stanislaw
12-11-2003, 12:17 AM
By blind I assume you mean highly inteligent.

Wilfred
12-11-2003, 12:22 AM
By blind I mean ignorant to the fact that the horn is better than the violin. Playing the horn stimulates the brain. Unfortunatly I cannot say the same for the violin.

Stanislaw
12-11-2003, 12:26 AM
Playing the violin stimulates emotion, compassion, and inner force.

Wilfred
12-11-2003, 12:30 AM
emotion of resentment that you do not play a real musical instrument, compassion for yourself that you can never be as great as a horn player, and inner force to make others cringe ot the mere sound of the bow being drawn across the strings.

Stanislaw
12-11-2003, 12:33 AM
Cringe with fear of the emotion, emotion of peace for playing the most calming thing, and compassion to accept the plumbers who think they are better than violinists.

Wilfred
12-11-2003, 12:35 AM
the most calming thing? it is only calming because they are falling asleep because it is so boring. Plumbers? Any one associated with brass is better than a violin player.

Stanislaw
12-11-2003, 12:38 AM
Tsk tsk, anyone can make pipes play, not everyone can make stings dance.

Wilfred
12-11-2003, 12:41 AM
Can you make pieps play? obviously not becasue you are still playing the violin. If you could do it right, you would be playing the horn now.

Stanislaw
12-11-2003, 12:42 AM
You win for now, wait untill tommorow, I will return.

Wilfred
12-11-2003, 12:46 AM
You will return only to be defaeted again.

Jay
12-11-2003, 01:21 PM
Can I jump in?

Your time to disagree's gone... sorry

OK, I used to play the flute for three years, and drums for three as well... just to answer the question. Oh, and I can play a guitar a little.

But Wilfred, why did you ask others' opinions when you're gonna try to make all agree with French horn?

Wilfred
12-11-2003, 02:24 PM
the flute? the drums? the guitar? I'm sorry, they can't compare with the glory of the horn. I want everone to agre with the horn because i want everyone to see that only true musci comes from the horn, that one can only be truly happy playing the horn.

Jay
12-11-2003, 02:42 PM
Yes, that's it, it's your opinion and you have every right to think so, but others may not share it. Why kinda force them to it?

You see, you like French horn a lot, I got the "hint" ;), but eg I like drums and electric quitar, might be with a piano... nice rock ballad... hmmm... and I also did get you're so going to disagree ;), feel free to do so :).

Wilfred
12-11-2003, 02:46 PM
Its not an opinion, it is the truth! I am most defiantly going to disagree with you. You don't have to plug the french horn in to make it play, and it sounds way better than the piano or drums. Just listen and you'll see.

Jay
12-11-2003, 02:58 PM
lol :D Wilfred, plug the horn in, now that's a visual :). I agree, horns in general sound ok, but just not my fav instruments, call me a savage if you like.

Wilfred
12-11-2003, 04:29 PM
You are a savage.

Stanislaw
12-12-2003, 12:38 AM
The piano is nice Jay, I took it for a few years. Same with the guitar.

Don't listen to plumber man and his brass, read the top 1000000 posts if you don't believe me.

Hey Wilfred, still up for the challange?

Jay
12-12-2003, 06:34 AM
:D lol Wilfred, thanks ;)

And Stan, my fav isn;t on the list, I've chosen the one I like best from the list, but piano does sound ok...

Wilfred
12-12-2003, 02:31 PM
The piano is NOT ok, don't listen to the firewood peddler, yep that is the only thing it is good for, firewood. I am still up for the challenge.

Stanislaw
12-12-2003, 09:00 PM
So the plumber strikes...

I am still game mario.

IWilKikU
12-13-2003, 12:36 AM
The greatest piece written for Horn is Handel's Water Music, first movement: Hornpipe. Have you ever heard this without accompaniment? I have. It sucks dude. The horn is only any good in an orchistra which contains not only firewood, but other plumbing as well! Personally, I'm a plumming player (trombone) and I like the horn alot. But a violin solo, or violin choir is far more pleasing to the ear than the shakey nature of the horn. That being said, brass players (particularly the horn because of its extremely close intervals) have better ear training than string players because we not only have to know fingering positions, but ombischour (lip positions) as well. And the horn is generally accepted as the hardest band/orchestra insturment to play. Now, as for my personal preference, put me behind a drumset in a rock band and I'll pump out more emotion (into the crowd, myself, and bandmates) than can be done from a brass or string.

Jay
12-13-2003, 10:21 AM
yeah, drums are great ;)

subterranean
12-15-2003, 12:21 AM
Unable to play any of those instruments, but piano is always my fav :)

Jay
12-15-2003, 05:15 AM
lol Subterrenean, what a crazy avatar ;) :D

Azoic
12-15-2003, 08:31 PM
I have to say, as a former trumpeteer, that I don't care for how horns sound, and they don't really teach much in the way of composition. Piano is great for composing, while drums teach rhythm. Now if you want great sound go for woodwind. Saxiphone is fantastic. Since I usually compose, I chose piano. You didn't list any electronic components on the poll, which I found greatly disappointing, nor did you list any drums. I find no music more enjoyable than a 12 percussionists, perhaps with a didjeridoo or too, ad libbing. It's fun and relaxing!

Adso
12-18-2003, 02:09 PM
I would have voted for the guitar but i don't seem to find it anywhere in that poll. :D

Jay
12-18-2003, 02:13 PM
It's not there Adso :D:D:D

Welcome btw

Was just kidding about the spelling thing, I'm not an English teacher!

Jay

subterranean

Jay
12-18-2003, 11:13 PM

subterranean

The key is in on your friend then not the cello

Jay
12-20-2003, 09:19 AM
LOL, talking about sarcasm Sub, huh?

Kik, you wanna to join our sarcastic club, feel free ;)

Cello sounds ok, sis used to play it for a while, was nice, so was the fipple flute I used to play btw

subterranean
12-21-2003, 11:10 PM
A Sarcastic club? I don't know we have such thing in here...

what's a fipple flute?

Jay
12-21-2003, 11:12 PM
not the cross one? I dunno how to explain that...

subterranean
12-21-2003, 11:15 PM

Jay
12-21-2003, 11:23 PM
uuuf, you're not letting me to take the easy way out, are you, Sub, huh?

Ok, ok..you're excuse for now

Jay
12-22-2003, 12:16 AM
If I by any chance tried to find pics of the flutes, would it help? And I can't promise I would do that today, exhausted just a little...

subterranean
12-22-2003, 12:25 AM
Oh don't bother. I don't wanna cause any trouble, just my curiosity nerve is kind of active these days

Jay
12-22-2003, 12:27 AM
NO trouble, I'm just not any good with explaining, people tend to end more confused than before.

subterranean
12-22-2003, 12:30 AM
Well I asked you to try but you wouldn't..Not fair if you think that I'd also end up in confusion.

Jay
12-22-2003, 12:37 AM
ok then, but rememeber, YOU asked, and was warned.

Fipple flute, it is held vertically, meanwhile the cross flute hotizontally, fipple flutes are mostly wooden with a plast part (that one that is, huh, blown in?) or wholly plastic, the cross one is metallic and has huh, flaps? Fipple one has just holes. Makes ANY sense at all?

subterranean
12-22-2003, 12:42 AM
LOL..:D :D :D

Definition: [n] a woodwind with a vertical pipe and 8 finger holes and a whistle mouthpiece

Synonyms: fipple flute, recorder, vertical flute

Jay
12-22-2003, 12:47 AM
oh yeah, just laugh, yey, why do I always fall for it? Do I have a sign on my forehead sayin DUMBASS? That's what one gets when trying to be polite, not telling someone to look in a dictationary. I'm sooooo in a need of ENGLISH one...

subterranean
12-22-2003, 12:52 AM
Uppsss, :D :D no worries Jay, I'm still wondering what it is, won't be sure enough before I see what it looks like..

Azoic
12-22-2003, 05:41 AM
Jay, from your description I'm thinking it's sorta like a soprano saxophone. (which are straight and not curved, if I remember correctly) I could be wrong (and often am).

Jay
12-22-2003, 07:18 AM
I don't know soprano saxophone, yes, both flutes ARE straight, thankies

Azoic
12-22-2003, 07:20 AM
do fipple flutes have reeds or are they like regular flutes with just a hole that you blow over?

Jay
12-22-2003, 07:24 AM
Well, I don't know reeds... it has a thingy you blow into...

Azoic
12-22-2003, 07:29 AM
a reed is a piece of wood that vibrates. Saxiphones have them. Maybe I should just go to a music store some time. Experts tend to have good answers.

Jay
12-22-2003, 12:49 PM
Nope, as far as I know there's nothing in fipple flute that vibrates.

YES!!! I was finally able to found pictures of the flute. These all are whole-plastic.

Just ignore whatever there's written about it, highly doubt anyone of you can speak Czech :p.

http://tuba.unas.cz/e-shop/page25_1.htm.

Everyone happy now? :D ;) Anything else I can do for you? Yey, kinda hyper now that I've finally found it.

IWilKikU
12-22-2003, 01:49 PM
Its not like a soprano sax. Soprano saxes have valves that cover the holes. Fipples just have holes that you cover directly with your fingers. Theyre like those recorders that they make you play at summer camp. And they dont have reeds either.

Jay
12-22-2003, 01:53 PM
THANK YOU Kik :D, where were you earlier? Very grateful you stopped by and helped :).

btw, a friend of mine just told me another word for fipple flute is a recorder. Does it help?

Isagel
12-22-2003, 02:21 PM
Ella Fitzgerald was called not a singer but an instrument. If she was an instrument she has to be my favorite one.

Azoic
12-22-2003, 09:45 PM
Ah, a recorder. Yes, I know exactly what a fipple flute is (nice picture, now that that's loaded). Good effort Jay and Kik.

I did told you that the other word for that flute is recorder. And thank's for the picture :). I used to play that instrument when I was in the elementary school

Jay
12-23-2003, 10:45 PM
Well Sub, THEN I didn't know that it IS a recorder, had to ask a friend who plays like five kinds of flutes to find out.

Piano is good. :)

RoCKiTcZa
09-25-2007, 04:45 AM
It doesn't matter. What really matters is the message of the song and how good the sound is; how good the player is or how dedicated he is to his instrument.

Nossa
09-25-2007, 08:35 AM
Well..I'm learning the violin..so this is where my vote went :D:D

Virgil
09-25-2007, 11:13 AM
Not sure what is meant by "best". The piano is usually considered the most flexible of instruments. By using two hands one can play a base line along with a melody line.

*Classic*Charm*
09-25-2007, 02:14 PM
I'd like to know where percussion instruments fall into that list??;)

Sorry, I cannot vote for anything but drums.

Well, if I must, I'll thorw my vote to the french horn. It is my secondary, after all...

Weisinheimer
09-25-2007, 05:31 PM
Guitar isn't on the list! I don't play it, but I love listening to it. It's pretty versatile, too. One can do alot on the guitar. And, unlike the piano, it's portable.

Lily Adams
09-25-2007, 08:22 PM
I play my really cheap keyboard, usually. I have a piano, too, but the keys stick so it's hard to play. I wish my keyboard was a bit more high-quality, however. It doesn't have a pitch changer wheel thing so I can't make funny-sounding pitches with it. Oh well. A high-quality one sounds nice. With the voices and everything sounding like how they're supposed to sound...

I like all kinds of instruments and I wish I had more time/money/talent to learn more. I've been getting into harpsichords, synths, and celestes recently.

Bartholomew
09-25-2007, 08:36 PM
I picked the clarinet out of those options, for it has the fullest and most melodic sound, and has proven more versatile than I first imagined.

LadyWentworth
09-25-2007, 10:30 PM
What? No harp?? I played the harp at one time.

I will have to vote for piano mainly because it is the instrument that I need to help me out while I have to practice using the instrument of my voice. :) It is the best because it is the most helpful in my situation. It also seems to be the most versatile, if I may use the word. It works with any style of music.

I play the flute, but I wish I played the violin.

I almost chose violin, but then I chose cello because I love Rasputina! And they can do wonderful things with cellos. :D

I really do like stringed instruments, they are just amazing. Silly flute. I chose it when I was like 10 and now I'm just stuck with it. ;)
