That sounds like what happened to me - my first karate teacher was Japanese and great, but he had to go back to Japan. Then there was a steady decline in the quality of teaching. (I stopped after 2 years too ;))

Quite so, it is boring black!

Go for it, Alien Girl! (Dang, that sound like a title for a super heroine!)

Thanks Pen. I'd like to be a super heroine. Ha! Ha! Ha!

I have recently read:

1. Emma by Jane Austen
2. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
3. Middlemarch by George Eliot

Heathcliff
06-30-2010, 04:14 AM
Number one.
Judging a book by its cover - well, its title - Emma sounds the least appetising.
A reason why you wouldn't read it.

Alright -- The theme for this one is my LitNet life. As per the rules, two of the below are true. And one is a lie. Spot the lie.

1. I change my "occupation" in my profile all the time.
2. A long time ago. . .I used Chewbacca as my avatar.
3. When I first registered, I had Watchmen listed as my "favorite book".

Pendragon

The prize goes to Snoopy and Woodstock.

I've never listed Watchmen as my favorite book, though I took my name from that novel. I do, however, change my profile "occupation" all the time, but I haven't changed my real occupation in about 10 years (nor do I plan to). And I did, for a brief while, have Chewy as my avatar.

And you'd be correct. They have the helicopter rides, but I felt it was too much money for too short a ride.

Tad Wilson, a friend of man, is the local medflight helicopter pilot.

We are indeed under a military flyover, both copters and planes, headed perhaps to the so-called "Underground White House" which is, I'm told, not that far away by air, Camp David, a Presidential weekend retreat in Maryland's Catoctin Mountains, not far away by air, or to Mount Weather, a real place; eighty-five acres located forty-five miles west of Washington and 1725 feet above sea level, near the town of Bluemont, VA, not far away by air.

I have a model railway in my office.

Just to keep you going untli somebody tries the third option, I was 15 years in the Roayl Air Force, flew in about 30 types of aircraft (fixed wing, rotary, single engined, multi-engined, glider, jet, turbo prop, conventional piston engined), and I always buy my spirits in 70cl bottles.

mrv gets it with No. 1. Bit of a cheat really - I developed a fear of heights on the Funkturm in Berlin (bit like the Eiffel Tower), but managed to overcome it. Fear of heights and fear of flying are completely seperate. The model railway was built for the kids, and is now for the grandchildren (if you believe that). The spirits thing is not a good idea!

All your, ma'am!

mrv

Oh! My turn?

1 I have gone without food and water for more than two days!

2 If I was hanging on to a ledge and letting go of it could kill me, I would still 100% let go if a spider came that way!

3 I have had a recurring nightmare that has made me believe that in my past life I was a captive (POW or something) and I was shot dead!

I came back.
Bah. School is busy.

1. I have a vivid memory of riding Puff and Billy (the train thing)

2. I used to think I was allergic to cauliflower

3. My mum made my First Communion dress

08-17-2010, 06:56 AM
Ummm...lol it's kinda cool that you started because you got it right lol.

I think it's 1

dafydd manton
08-17-2010, 06:58 AM
I'll go for two, but only because an allergy to cauliflower should be rewarded, real or imaginary. (Was it Mark Twain who said that it was just cabbage with a college education?)

Let's make it 3 to round out the answers

adityasam
08-17-2010, 10:07 AM
I'll go with #3

Jazz_

All the options are gone :(

Isn't it "Puffing Billy"? (The steam is him puffing) - or is that what makes it a lie :p

Pendragon
09-02-2010, 02:33 PM
Let's take a fresh start here, shall we?

1) I collect Sherlock Holmes books
2) I collect Hercule Pirot books

dafydd manton
09-02-2010, 03:42 PM
Don't see Sister Fidelma being challenging enough for you, so I'm going with 3!

Olga4real
09-02-2010, 11:32 PM
I say it's number 2

Pendragon
09-03-2010, 10:13 AM
I say it's number 2

Dang, Olga, you always get it right! :hurray::hurray::hurray:

And Daffy, I enjoy Sister Fidelma for the wonderful insight to Ancient Ireland and the early Catholic Church... :)

Olga4real

I am glad that I was right. I can't find out any lies at the moment, so Dafydd, would you post something instead of me?

Olga4real
09-09-2010, 02:31 AM
I see nobody wants to post instead of me. Then let's see what can I find out:

1. I've been reading a book for a year now.

2. I use 3 languages every day.

3. I paint my apartment by myself.

Jazz_
09-09-2010, 05:36 AM

Pendragon
09-09-2010, 11:05 AM

Olga4real
09-09-2010, 12:44 PM
Almost everything I said is true: I have been reading a Svejk for more than a year it's my laziness. I do use 3 language every day - I live and work in Hungary so I use Hungarian at work, with my Hungarian friends and with my kids also. My mother language is Russian and I watch Russian tv every day, talk to my Ukrainian friend almost every day and guess which is the third language? You see I am here on this site everyday...
When I painted my apartment my daughters helped me from time to time so....

the winner is Jazz!!!

Olga, are you for real? You are an excellent guesser! I sold that first computer and have rebuilt the current one three times. The other two are true!

Try to jump start this thread again... Sigh

1) I saw four army helicopters go over on the flyby yesterday
2) Helicopters go by often on the flyby from a Government base in the mountains
3) I have never flown in a helicopter

papayahed
10-08-2010, 01:13 PM
Crap! I know there's a base near you and I know you mentioned somewhere about flying in a helicopter, to bad I can't remember if you said you did or did not.

I'm going with #1.

adityasam
10-08-2010, 02:51 PM
OK #2 Then!

Olga4real

Dear Pendragon will we ever know the truth?

Pendragon
11-25-2010, 12:14 PM
Actually it was number one, as there were five helicopters, not four! You're up, Grover!

So, is it Papaya's turn?

Restarting the thread.

1. I have never designed a nuclear reactor.
2. I have never been the lead in a play.
3. I have never voted for the winner in a Presidential election.

Buh4Bee
01-13-2013, 10:26 PM
You have been the lead in a play.

Pendragon
01-14-2013, 10:50 AM
#1 is the probable lie, but consider that it is never said that it worked or was even for a functional one
#3 could be true, as it doesn't have to be a national presidential election, but for a club, a class, etc
#2 Could be false, but also true

I'll go with One being the lie.

01-14-2013, 03:42 PM
#3 is the lie ;0
