Hi Peeps,

Need your recommendations on online bookstores other than Powell and Amazon, which also serve international customers. I think the recommendations should be based on the shipping/handling fee, discounts (if any), and the quality of the books when they arrive at your place.

I don't know about international fees and stuff, but I have used a few:

Barnes and Noble: www.bn.com

You can buy textbooks and literature off of ebay at: www.half.com

Used books:www.alibris.com

Barnes and Noble has always been good to me. You can buy used or new, and the used dealers from Barnes and Noble are very dependable. Barnes and Noble also has really good prices on the used books. Half.com is part of ebay so you have to check the personal seller's ratings (and have an ebay account I think). Alibris, I found this site through Barnes and Noble. They have a seven dollar fee for international shipping.

There were two incidences though on Half.com that I was disappointed with the results. The seller packaged a book incorrectly and the post office lost it. Another one just never showed up. But you can get your money back within six weeks if Half.com does that to you.

Those are just a couple I have used. I hope that they help at least lead you in the right direction.

Powell still rules on shipping fee, compared to BN, Amazon, and Alibris
Half, I think, does not eligible for international customers (outside USA and Canada)


Ok, the reason I ask recommendations is that because all this time, I ordered my books (when they're not available) via this local bookstore, which then place its orders to sellers abroad. And I see that they charged quite higher, which is understandable. So, I'm thinking, perhaps if I place the orders by myself, I can get lower prices overall. But I'd like to have several options first before I decide to which online bookstores I'll place my orders.
