I recently finished reading "The Go-Between" by L.P Hartley and I loved it. Before reading it, I didn't know much about it, which just goes to show that it must be very under-rated.

Has anyone else here read it and liked it?

My literature professor told me to read it but I can't find it anywhere. Is it really that good? Can you tell me sth more about it? Thanks :)

The Go-Between is narrated by Leo, and old man looking back on the summer of 1900. As a twelve year old, Leo spends July at the country house of a school friend, and soon becomes involved in taking messages between his friend's older sister, the beautiful Marian, and the farmer Ted. At first he doesn't realise what he's doing, but eventually he discovers that Ted and Marian are having an affair. Throughout the story, Leo watches the thermometer rise as the temperature gets increasingly hotter, building up to the tragedy at the end of the book.

I'm afraid I'm not very good at giving summaries, but there it is. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

Personally, I loved it. It's very well-written, and I found it unusually suspenseful, and even addictive. :)

Have you tried ordering a copy off Amazon?

I think you did very well with the summary :) Thanks again. Really, it feels like here that book didn't exist, I've been to all the libraries and bookshops in the neighbourhood. Now I'm reading Henry Miller's "Nexus" and it's great.
It's a beautiful day, don't let it get away :D

I didn't know the book, but from what you said, it quietly sounds very nice.
I'll look for it.

Good good. If you do read it, I'd be interested to know what you thought of it.
