Does anybody know how to start a new thread? I would really like someone to respond to my comment and questions posed about 1984, here it is;
The proles lead simple lives, away from the hassles of the party and Big Brother. Though uneducated, they seemed happy. On the contrary, those people who are educated, like Wintson smith, lead unhappy and controlled lives working in the ministries, under the constant watchful eye of Big Brother.
What do you think was a key motivator/s for loving BB? Some characters faked this love including Wintson and Julia, but why is it, that people like O'Brien and Mr Charrington have a genuine love and dedication to the party?
Please enlighten me with a response, i'm finding it difficult to understand their motives.

Ever heard the saying "Ignorance is bliss". Not to mention that even the Party members seemed uneducated to things going on around them. The one cominality between all the Outer Party members was a complete lac k of common sence. Then come a man (Winston) who appears to have a little and you discover how easy it is to accually see what's going on.

The two mintute hate is where all the love is based around. In this hate you see the true brain washing that has happened in this soceity. It is simular to how Hitler ruled the SS. He gave them 20 commandments of hate and tbhey gave him unfaultering loyality. As long as their is always an enemy there will always be the desire for a fatherly figure to lead his/her people to a greater good.
Roosvelt, Churchill, Musolinni, Hitler and Stalin all were benifactorers of WWII, in the idea that they received so much unwaviering support, because of unrelenting hate.

In relation to Mr Charrington I would say gullibility but in realtion to O'Brien my understanding is that he has literally sacrificed himself to the greater organism of BB in order to, conversly, achieve immortality
