Hey y'all what is your favorite animal?

Where does it live?

What is the history of it?

What group does it belong to?

I like guiena pigs it is orignally from South America and the Natives used to eat them and sacrifice them to the gods. The animal group is a rodent but Guiena pigs look like a baby pig. In the U.S.A. we breed them for $$$ cause they are expensive and a cage costs $180 and has to be cleaned twice a week

How is it in Canada

nicholasburrus

It is boring in America

Stanislaw
12-02-2003, 10:38 PM
I would say it is great *bragging* but that would be only partly true. Canada can be boring in the cities but the wilderness is beutifle. I like American shopping centers and beaches. Especially Hawaii. It is a nice place and is the home state of Akibono. Although Canada does have some very nice coast.

That is really sad.:( .

I grew up in the forest (raised by wolves an all), we only had to walk about 50 yards to see trees. Logging and mining is so destructive, it just makes me sick.

I like tigers. They carry the writing of God on themselves. They live in Siberia, Bengal, and other places.

Tigers are my chinese zodiak. What is yours?
Tigers are awesome, it's too bad so many are being killed by poachers.

I hate all the poachers. It is so pointless, if they put all the effort they put into poaching itno farming, they wouldn't need to hunt endangered animals.

I think I am a rabbit, according to the chinese zodiac.

My favorite animal is the cat. Second favorite is humans.

Then hegdehogs.

There is an old poem about them, something like:

By troubles over large and small
I turned more and more into an hedgehogball.
Really do not want to be bitten
even if I´m strange and little

I have this theory that cats are actually spies that have been sent from the 'other side' to watch us and report back to the prime watchers whenever they catch us doing somthing bad. Seriously, look at one's face. They're not cute or cuddly. They always look annoyed and disgusted with you.

azmuse
12-12-2003, 11:17 PM
Yes they're sent from the other side; they are Deities

nicholasburrus

Yeah, I wish I had everything too. I want the world, AND I WANT IT NOW!!!!!!! (thanks Jim Morrison)

I'm living with a cat, but it's still pretty young (untrained deity?). It seems cute an cuddly in the face, unless it's being chased by my 120 lb. (8.5 stone/55kilo(?)) Rottweiler. Then it just has a look of determination (determined to let the humans to do all the work. Gosh is that dog hard to hold back).

IWilKikU
12-22-2003, 01:09 PM
let the dog catch it. It will make everyones life alot better. The dog gets to eat a cat, you dont get spied on anymore, and the cat is released from its service to whatever being from the other side that keeps it in checkmate and forces it to spy on you!

Isagel
12-22-2003, 01:41 PM
I remember this poem about a cat but I can´t remember who wrote it:

My kitten walks
on velvet feet
and makes no sound at all
and in the doorway nightly sits
to watch the darkness fall
I think he loves the lady night
and feels akin to her
whos footsteps are
as light as his
whos touch as soft as fur.

My favorite animals are cats -- all cats, but especially big cats (except lions, the only cats that are not loners.)

The ancient Egyptians worshipped cats because they considered them mystical creatures. I think the Egyptians were onto something. Cats seem to exist in a different realm. And notice how cautiously and gracefully they move in our realm.

Outside of zoos, I have only seen big cats twice "in person." One was a pet ocelot in a Florida shop I used to frequent. Native to South America, he was a German shepard-size cat who used to maul me playfully, not realizing his own strength or the sharpness of his claws.

The other big cat was a Florida panther in the Everglades. He looked exactly like a western cougar and luckily he was caged. It's illegal to keep Florida panthers as pets since they are an endangered species, but I was grateful I didn't encounter this huge cat in the wild.

In Costa Rica I searched the rainforest for margeys, which are slightly smaller than ocelots. Unfortunately, margeys are mainly nocturnal and I never found one because I wasn't up to tramping through the venomous snake-filled jungle at night.

When I was in Sri Lanka (Ceylon), I heard horror stories about leopards dragging children into the bush from remote villages, but the only leopard I saw was in a zoo in the capital of Colombo.

Some day I hope to see the biggest cat of all, a Bengal tiger. But only if I have a rifle in my hand. They eat people in India and Bangladesh on a regular basis.

RobinHood3000
12-10-2005, 02:10 PM
If I'm not mistaken, the biggest cat is actually the Siberian tiger.

If I'm not mistaken, the biggest cat is actually the Siberian tiger.
You're right, the Siberian tiger is slightly larger than the Bengal. But there's no way I'm hiking through the snows of Siberia. I'm strictly a tropical man. A 600-pound Bengal male is a big enough cat for me.

anyway I have a question about crows, does anyone know if to handle a crow you need falconers gloves like with owls, buzzards, vultures and hawks?

oh and did you know there is very very little know about owls and most that is know is now thought to be misconseptions?

you guys are hilarious, I was trying to explain this thread to my husband, he says he'd rather run around the corner and shoot someone(online game playing). So I am alone in my giggling at the computer screen.

As for animals, I love them, eaten or otherwise ;)
I have Two pregnant Mini donkeys, a Pug, two cats and I'm waiting for my Austrailian Shepard to be old enough to take home. His eyes are just now opening. I take riding lessons, and I quote " the outside of the horse is good for the inside of man". Winston Churchill

I don't think Elmer Fudd is welcome in Sherwood forest!Ha!Did you know that deep fried batter is actually really unhealthy?!Better watch that male
middle-age spread.;)So greasy-yuck!I'll have the rabbit's carrot and lettece, thanks!:)

My favourite marine animals are dolphins, and my favourite forest animals include fawns and squirrels .I once swam with some ethereal dolphins.I also love snow leopards, and faery penguins, and all farm animals, such as dogs, lambs, ducks, pigs, cows, donkeys, lamas, emus, kangaroos, and wallabies, etc.I would never consume any animal, when there are other sources of nourishment available.I'll just avoid the post above.;) I have a personal penchant for vegetables, grains, tofu, and fruit (wildberries especially).
I am also captivated by watching birds, and I particularly like doves, and native birds.Has anyone seen the Birds of Paradise?

Also, does anyone else like dinosaurs? If we are talking extinct species I would have to say dinosaurs, wooly mammoths, and Tasmanian tigers. I loved the Stegosaurus and Brontosaurus as a young child.I always had a special fondness for the vegetarian-friendly sauropods, but I do agree that the fearsome flesh-loving dinosaurs can be incredibly interesting to study. To be specific, I like some of the herbivorous ones such as Diplodocus and Camarasaurus.I actually viewed a fossile, at an exhibition, of what is probably the first bird, Archaeopteryx, from the Jurassic period, earlier this year. There were many enormous carnivourous dinosaurs on display as well. And I remember the seeing the
T-Rex at the museum from a really young age.It was thrilling.

My husband and I were given a young pair of Love Birds as a wedding gift and we named them Ozzie and Harriett. We tried a cat for about 2 months but Leo discovered he was mildly allergic; just enough so that we had to give him back. We are planning on getting a dog (soon Jay! :D ), probably just by going to the pound and picking out a lovable one. I've never had a dog of my own before, my parents were always cat and bird people. I worked for a Dachshund breeder for 2 years and I wanted so much to take one of the puppies home with me! The lady I worked for apparently sold the rights and many of the breeders to a farm in Alabama http://www.doxieland.com/. We would spend hours taking puppy pics and posting them on the site every week. It was so much fun!

If your love birds ever have two male hatchlings, you could name them Rickie and Dave.

(50s TV was so cool: Dad went to work and made lots of money, Mom stayed home where she belonged and cooked/cleaned, and the kids played in a front yard surrounded by a white picket fence. No wife beaters or teens on dope -- except in the real world.)

I'm with you. I agree with W. C. Fields' opinion of birds. He hated them and called them "damned reptiles" because they lay eggs like reptiles. They also spread pandemic diseases.

i love cats. we rescued one we called Pretty boy because he was neutered and had an air that he actually knew he was pretty. When we first rescued him we let him sleep in the living room on a big cozy chair. Clayton's room was just off to the side. He closed the door and went to sleep. About an hour later he heard heavy puffy breathing and continued banging against the door. He opened it and Pretty was exhausted from trying to get the door opened to get in. Clayton comforted him then closed the door and put some furniture against it. Pretty hurled himself against the door for half an hour until he dislodged it some how. Then he pushed with all his might and somehow got inside the room and laid down beside Clayton who was too tired to argue. After that if Clayton dared to move Pretty snarled and whined and got super angry. What a cat
I love horses as well and like to ride. Hate the thought of big cats in captivity and am furious that Thailand and China eat rare animals.
I like the Triceratops, can't spell it but like it.

To be honest, I actually don't like most of them, they look so fake and with all those modifications it's hard to tell if they were actually ever human.

Topsoil and compost!!

Torosaurus was like Triceratops, but with a headcrest that was longer and higher, which gave it a more elegant appearance (in my opinion). Styracosaurus is like Triceratops, but with a dangerous-looking fringe of extra spikes/horns around its headcrest, giving it a more savage appearance (again, in my opinion).

I sure do. I will try to find time to crochet a little doilie(those pretty pieces of knitting or crochet that go on tables etc.) and I will incorporate the word "starr" on it and let you see. I will give you instructions. also if you go onto Google and then ehow you can find all sorts of help for knitting and crocheting. And about Starr's swearing, I heard a lot of that in the home for seniors. It seems to come automatically when their minds wander and they think they are young men in the military once more. A gentle pat on the head and a nice cup of hot chocolate always put them right again.

You never heard of Neil Young? He's an American (originally Canadian) folk/rock musician who has been around for 30 years. He was in the groups Baffalo Springfield and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young before he went solo. His early stuff had great poetic lyrics second only to Bob Dylan. Cinnamon Girl was one of his biggest hit songs, along with The Loner, Down By The River, Cowgirl In The Sand and Heart Of Gold.

Where have you been -- in a cave?

I have never been a miner for a heart of gold but I love Neil Young and he truly is an icon. There is a simplicity about his sound that cuts right to the heart.
Insulin did you say Starr, man for a guy that when I first met him , sounded like the epitome of American manhood and moxy you are now down to weeping, wearing pink Tinker Bell slippers, fluffy towels and now insulin.
Say guys what say we all get together and send this fluffy growly bear a virtual get well card complete with lots of sugar and cinnamon and honey.
How about it. Then he'll know just HOW MUCH WE LOVES HIM. because we do.
Starr you had better pray a whole new bunch of chicks come on board that don't know your hidden sweet side and who like we did will take all manner of offense at just everything you say. That will perk you right up and put you back into fighting trim, am I right? :brow: :D

Neil Young isn't all sweetness and light. "Four Dead in Ohio" is one of the angriest songs I ever heard. He showed a dark side in "Down By The River," a song about a guy who kills his girlfriend. And "The Loner" could be the theme song for alienated existential mavericks like me.

I was joking about eating a pet, but I know what you mean about feeling weird.

In Hawaii I learned to eat tako (octopus), which is a favorite food among native islanders. It tasted pretty good and I hunted tako with a speargun in the ocean. Then one day I saw a Jacques Cousteau TV special called "The Soft Intelligence." I realized how intelligent octopi are and suddenly I felt almost like a cannibal. Imagine eating Flipper.

Now I couldn't eat tako if I was starving. Live and learn.

PS: I like your drawings. Believe it or not, years ago I wrote two short stories titled "The Lone Wolf" and "Hummingbirds." I'm thinking of using your drawings to accompany the stories, if you don't mind. I'll give you credit if you send me your real name in a PM.

nothing loves socks new shoes and whimpering day and night like a puppy bless their little chubby hearts.
and nothing loves curtains, paper bags and balls of wool like kittens, bless their scrawny little hearts.
I used to have a persian I called Shalimar, Shally for short. I rescued her from the spca they were just going to put her down. she was matted, terrified and seemed to be dead though she lived.
I took her home, actually bathed her and blow dried her and she just lay there relaxed, so happy to be out of that confining cage. I kept her in the house for a while then tried letting her out. The first day I opened the door and there she was hanging on to the door knob, she was still scared. But in no time she was climbing all the trees, exploring the grass at the side of the creek and she became an amazing hunter. Once she went missing for days and I was sick with worry until one of my children said she was four doors down eating from a bowl with gourmet cat food. Apparently she preferred that. we became inseperable and she became a mighty hunter, afraid of nothing. once a dog was nosing around the yard and she came flying down and jumped on his back and got a ride from the yowling dog(star was hisname and we loved him) then she came haughtily back and wound herself around my legs. when I went for emergency surgery although a dear friend cared for her she lost most of her fur from crying for me. when I came back she couldn't stop purring and laying on my face Ugh. but she was a dear.

Riesa
01-09-2006, 07:50 PM
Ah, Shalimar.
We have a black persian named Aladdin. Also rescued from the spca, he might as well have been a squirrel when we got him, so wild and scared. He lived under our bed for a month, behind books on the bookshelves, anywhere he could get that was small and dark. I used to coax him out from his hiding spot with canned food, then I'd grab him, forcefully hold him and brush him, his heart pounding as if I was a wolf mauling him. Now he is delighted by company, his little "eee, eee", squeaking at everyone. He still can not properly meow. We realized he was well and truly tame and happy when we left for a week, had neighbors feed the animals, when we came home he ran to us, my husband picked him up and he began to blissfully drool. Now he drools very often, ugh. He is also a dear. :)

I've watched Bula grow from closed-eyed newborn to his six week old self, he grows so rapidly! Little fat fluff-ball.

Bula, what a lovely name, he sounds just too adorable. My adopted brother and his wife have a ranch somewhere between Calgary and Edmonton and they continually rescue dogs and cats from people that just let them out on the highway and drive away. Did you know that if a cat ingests ibuprofen, it's lethal? My husband dropped an ibuprofen the other morning and he was looking around for it and the cat leaped over in the general area of where my husband thought he dropped the ibuprofen and started eating something. My husband couldn't find the ibuprofen and assumed that the cat ate the pill (would a cat even eat a whole ibuprofen?)

Anyway, he called the vet and asked what would happen to the cat if she did in fact eat the ibuprofen and they told him the cat would die. So, he starts looking around for the ibuprofen hoping that maybe he overlooked it and he did. If it doesn't fall into his outstretched hands.... :D

So, our cat is not dead. ****sigh of relief****

Aw, sorry about that. It hurts to lose a pet.

Regarding the ibuprofen, I gave my dog Nicky one a long time ago (he was old and arthritic) and he vomited a bloody discharge and the vet said to never give animals ibuprofen. Just plain aspirin is ok though, like the 81mg dose. Nicky was a good dog, he was 17 when he died.

Well, be careful about it. I mean, it starts with a goldfish, who knows what she's capable of? :D

So, you're saying that I should stick with fish....

Yeah, don't upgrade to a cat, or a dog . . . :D That would be a true tragedy. ;)

Now, the secret have been revealed...

It's interesting that I should come across this post, as just the other day my brother-in-law was telling me about a show he watched on the Discovery Channel. The new king of the jungle is the Liger--a cross between a siberian tiger and a lion. The cat was monsterous--approximately three times the size of the siberian tiger!

(Just circulating about dispensing tidbits from my PEZ dispenser of knowledge. :p )

Sorry to hear about your goldfish buddy Sub. :( Hope ur doin okay.

It is strange how attached we get to our pets, isn't it. I have two cats right now, Ringo and Pica, and they are my boys. I don't know what I'm going to do when I lose them.

You are correct Autumngal. The Liger is gigantic!!! But aren't they usually born sterile? Or am I thinking of a Tigon? (The liger sire being the Lion and the tigon sire being the tiger.)

I think the only dogs my family raised during my lifetime were dobermans and one daschund. I don't know why. I think they are my dad's favorite, although that breed has grown near my heart too.

Yes, I've heard of a Liger, but it's not a natural animal. It was bred. But I can't believe it's three times the size of a Siberian Tiger. That would put it at around 2000 pounds. I know it's big, but it can't be that big.

Isn't a Liger from that movie Napoleon Dynamite? It's REAL!

Sleepywitch,

Sloths are cool:thumbs_up I just wish I hadn't seen a sloth get picked off by an eagle, carried off to the nest, and eaten alive. It was horrible.

That reminds me, I killed an aardvark with my car last night and forgot to check for any damages. I like to call them Texan deer, they're always on the roadway getting ran over.

Your 'naughty hound' is very handsome indeed, Drama. Is it a beagle, or a jack russell terrier? or is it a mix of some sort? Either which way, what a cutie, I'd love to hug her!! :)

:D Hunter and I thank ye kindly kiz. She is actually not a mix-breed at all, but a virginian breed of dog descended from the English foxhound called a "Treeing walker coonhound". But we like to call her the 60 pound beagle for laughs  :p Lovely geese!

Drama, your dog is really cute. I should bring my camera along more often when I go out. I took my dog Dillon out the other day to this little pond down the street and there was a heron there. I would have loved to have gotten it's picture.

.

She was a little mad because she had a trip to the vet and got two shots. Then to add insult to injury we put the hat on her.

She's been sulking. Now she is sleeping.
