I am new to the realm of books of Battletech and Arsène Lupin (I'll ask about those two series for starters): anyone know where to start, which books are a good read (etc.)?

I read "Le Bouchon d'Or," featuring Arsene Lupin, when I was about fourteen and enjoyed it. Arsene Lupin is a sort of gentleman crook, if I remember correctly - a French equivalent of Raffles, from about the same (late Victorian) period or somewhat earlier. Good entertainment.
