I had to pull this one to conform with publication rules. This story is going to be published in MotherVerse Journal for September, 2006, Issue #5, hard copy and online version. www.motherverse.com. --Enjoy!

I made several revisions to this story since it was last up, particularly to the paragraph about Ms. Davis. Hope you enjoy it.

Jon, while I feel relaxed and smooth from your writing in general, certain elements of it slightly stir me in an infinite and pleasant way. I especially like the ending description and I'd like to see the arrival of the storm.
I am thinking about Ms. Davis' reply that things are as we are now. So is this based on some philosophical theory?

Thanks White Camelia for your kind and thoughtful remarks. This is my first short short story and I struggled with it, particularly the Ms. Davis character. I tried to create a world reflecting the inner life of the narrator. As a whole, it has a philosophical bent, but a simple one. Beth, the wife, is a math teacher and represents the world of concrete things - tables and chairs; Ms. Davis, on the other end, lives in her little oasis, philosophizing. He spends a great deal of time in his room, with Ms. Davis, dreaming, all comfortably removed from his more immediate obligations. And he's conflicted, perhaps. To what degree he is or is not, and whether he represents the common person, I leave to the reader. There may be more than one "storm" coming...

Wow, you picked up on the line, "We are as we are now"!!!! I can't take full credit for that one. It's a take from a book title by one of my favorite authors, May Sarton.

Thanks again and I'm looking forward to read more of your work! :)
