First off hello Im back
second Yes I need help again... this time its a bit odd.
Every year in the Uk libraries they have a reading challenge for kids ( if you have a child aged 6-11) look it up lots of fun.
Anyway its a themed thing and the children get to read any 6 books then move along this themed poster till they rech the end and in september they will get a certificate and medal.
last year it was the reading Voyage and my library dressed up as Pirates this year its The reading mission and Im supposed to get a "spy, detective" costume preferbly from a book.. oh and a wheres wally costume but as we already done that once I have that one.
Anyway to get to the point I need suggestions for costumes.

My little sister said the tardis (http://www.drwhoguide.com/tardis.jpg) ..... somehow I think NOT!

First off hello Im back

Hi!

I think that you should go for a noir Dick Tracy type of thing. Although, you might want something unique that no one else will use . . . you might look good dressed up like an inanimate object. :D

What does a Where's Wally costume look like?

How could you even produce a reasonable facsimile of the Inspector? She shouldn't commit an injustice :D .

wheres wally

A fedora and/or a deerstalker hat(s) always work for me when I dress like a detective, they are very "detectivey" ;)

(and Inspector Gadget wears a fedora...)

Yellow trench coat and fedora - Dick Tracy
Khaki trench coat and fedora - Inspector Gadget
A suit, stuffed with many, many pillows - Nero Wolfe
A bald cap and a HUGE moustache - Hercule Poirot

Feel free to go after Sherlock Holmes, if you like -- I can't for the life of me remember what his hat is called.

You could stick on a grey wig, grab some knitting needles and go as Miss Marple. :D Of course, there's always Sherlock, whom I've imitated successfully in the past. A deerstalker cap, fake pipe and a phony magnifying glass is all it really takes. In fact magnifying glasses in general are a good idea. You can get some small ones cheap that might be fun to hand out to the kids. Here (http://www.orientaltrading.com/application?namespace=browse&origin=browseProductMain.jsp&event=link.itemDetails&demandPrefix=11&sku=39/123&xsaleSku=39/1689) for example, you can get 144 magnifiers for about 8 USD.

Perhaps a deerstalker hat? :D http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h56/kathycf/786.jpg

I really like the fedora the best, it is extremely detectivey...Humphrey Bogart wears one in some of his detective movies. A fedora may be all that is needed! Although the pillows/Nero Wolfe idea could be an option.

Feel free to get a plastic orchid, as well. I would recommend against a bottle of beer.

Heh, Nero Wolfe was a fictional detective in a series of books by Rex Stout. Wolfe is a very intelligent man who is mostly housebound (he is not a people person) and relies on his second in command Archie Goodwin. He is very grumpy, an epicurean, lover of orchids and a rather heavy person. He actually has many pecadillos, but is pretty cool. I like the books.

Dick Tracy? Famous comic book detective, there was a movie in the 80's that starred Warren Beatty and Madonna.

Bah, humbug! I blame the whole thing on Warren Beatty. You may be right about me being turnipey though.... :p
