guys, i need prayers.

the philippines was just hit (and is still being hit) by typhoon florita. the winds were not really strong but the typhoon brought along the southwest monsoon.

the typhoon has caused so much damage, even here in baguio city. in fact since tuesday night the landslide count here has risen to 39, and from those landslides two children are still missing. their bodies (hopefully still breathing, but it's too slim a chance) have not been recovered yet. i ask for everyone to pray for those young souls. i aslo ask you guys to pray that the numbers--count of the damage, injury and deaths caused by florita--stop rising; that no one else is harmed.

thanks for all the prayers, guys. God bless all of you.

Oh, Amanda. I do hope you will take care and be as safe as possible . . . don't fall off the map for weeks and weeks, allright? Give an update every once in awhile.

News link (http://www.philstar.com/philstar/News200607140402.htm)

TAIPEI, Taiwan, July 13 (UPI) -- Tropical Storm Bilis headed for Taiwan Thursday, leaving at least 10 people dead, roads blocked and buildings destroyed by mudslides in the Philippines.

Bilis was expected to make landfall on Taiwan sometime Thursday night. Thousands of people were evacuated in Taiwan and in Fujian Province in China, where the storm was expected to hit around noon Friday, Xinhua, the official government news agency, said.

The National Disaster Coordinating Council in the Philippines reported that more than 22,000 people in Northern Luzon had been forced out of their homes by Bilis, known locally as Typhoon Florita, the Manila Times reported. Baguio, hit by 27 landslides, declared a state of emergency.

Rain was expected to continue through the weekend, hampering rescue efforts and increasing the danger of more landslides.

Repairing storm damage to bridges and roads was expected to cost close to $60 million.

Prayer will be going up for you Amanda. My Doctor was over there, home for holiday as far as I know. Dr. Marilou Innocalla, she told me she was from the island of Luzan. So I pray for her family as well, I don't know when she was coming back. Hang in there, little princess.

Oh wow Amanda, I will definitely keep you in my prayers. I do hope those children come home alright. That is so scary. But rest assured you have people here who love you and will pray for you and your home.

Amanda, my deepest sympathy goes to you. Hope everything will be restored and fine soon.

We just had a huge earthquake, and though I don't live in the effected area, I feel so much pain seeing my country fellowmen who become victims. We're also "enjoying" some other other "man-made" natural disasters at the moment, which sometimes make me think that, one of these days, we're all going to be drown soon and gone forever.

Indeed, I read what occurred, amanda, and I cannot express enough apologies to hear of the unfortunate, tragic events. I surely wish and hope the best for you, and for the well-being of your family, friends, and fellow citizens.
Take care and stay safe. You all remain in my thoughts.

dear everyone,

thanks for the thoughts and prayers (and hugs).

anyway, here's an update. the 2 children have been recovered. first off, let me correct myself. they were not missing due to the landslide. one child was trying to cross a creek (to get to their house, i believe) through large rocks and fell in. the other just wandered off (i'm not sure why. but the child got lost and was trying to find her way around.)

unfortunately for child #1 who fell in the creek's family, her body was found in la union (a province in the next region). condolences to her family. i'm only thankful they still found her body.

child #2's family now is rejoicing, for they found their little girl walking about Magsaysay Avenue (where so far the saddest of landslides occured).

as for me, thanks for all your concern, i am ok, doing well. as for the rest of the filipino people, well... thankfully the count of injuries/deaths due to the typhoon has not boomed. the rain has let up (i was able to go out without getting soaked today) and we'll be back in school by monday (groan). of course the damages are still there. the typhoon damaged 3M pesos worth on Baguio City alone. not to mention of course that in the lowlands the crops are ruined and it's flooded, but those are purely materialistic concerns. we'll rise again. :)

i know what you mean. watching the news was so depressing. it's painful to see your people suffering, enduring or escaping what is beyond anyone's control. i love the raina nd the fog and that didn;t let up for a few days. i was wishing that i had a room with large windows to enjoy it, but then seeing the landslides through those same windows? i'd rather have a cement wall.

and speaking of earthquakes... research as it that we'll be next, that an earthquake could strike the philippines anytime soon. gee. can't anticipate, just have to wait... today is actually the 16th anniversary of the killer quake that hit Baguio City and tore down large buildings, closed all access roads.. i wasn't born yet then though. oh well. hope all will be fine soon in your area of the world.

:( That is a shame. It is sad when anyone gets killed in a disaster like that, but it seems especially sad when a little one dies. Glad to hear there were survivors though and that you are ok, amanda.

I pray that all is well and recovery is fast from what has happened. I can understand what you must be feeling about all those gone and how terrible it must be for the families who have lost their loved ones.

In India as well, a series of blasts occured last Tuesday in several trains running between various stations of Mumbai. Most of the working population in Mumbai commutes by train and the bombs exploded during the rush hour in the evening when people were returing home from work. There were about 200 casualties and hundreds injured, relief work is going on and hopefully life would return to normal. But for those who have lost their loved ones, life can never be normal. I hope whosoever has done this gets a hard punishment for commiting such heinous crime.

Yes Amanda, I am fine. Thank you. I do not live in Mumbai so the effect was not felt here, but there life was heavily disturbed. Some arrests have been made. It's not an easy to matter to solve, so it will take some time to get to the real wrong doers.
