I guess I am in a minority of one here but I actually don`t like eating as I have very little appetite, but when it comes to drinking, that`s a different story. I like strong beer, preferably Belgian, and also French and Italian wines. So tonight I will have a bottle of Cote du Rhone or possibly Beaujolais with some potato chips and nuts. Actually I think Bordeux is better than Burgundy but it is primarily for red meats which I no longer eat and too heavy for snacks. Occasionally I have fish and then it`s white wine; usually Chablis or Frascati. Where drinking scores over eating is that it doesn`t interfere with reading, writing, using the computer or playing the piano; my main occupations.

Winterhook. Also the TV is on. I don't know what the program is b/c husband was watching it and I just joined him in here. From what I gather it's about what it means to drink in Ireland - it's some kind of FUN documentary - maybe it's fun for the host, who is supposed to be waking from a hangover after a night of tall glasses of Guiness and lots of Irish whiskey. And he goes off to breakfast for Irish whiskey...

Can't you drink herbal tea? I drink herb tea all the time. I like ginsing, chamomile (good for stomach problems), perpermint, Paul d'Arco, apple cinnamin tea, and others - even tried sassparillo; you know about cowboy movies and sassparillo, don't you? They also have some teas that taste similar to coffee. I have even iced the herb teas - they're great that way.
That is how I am feeling about soda. :(
Well, did you know that caffeine is actually a pain reliever? They put it into some medications to make the medication work better or your body to absorb it; especially headache and pain pills. They say drinking some makes your focus better and studies have actually shown that caffeine can make you sharper/smarter at tasks. I am down now to a half a mug of coffee in the morning, but I don't really think it is helping my health issue to cut it out. I use some low acid instant coffee, called Kava, anyway. You can buy it at Acme or online. I also crush that Prelief with a wooden pestal (think that is what is it called - to crush up herbs, nuts, etc.) Then I add that to my coffee or cappucino, while still hot. It helps I think, although my concern is my bladder; but also I have had indigestion problems. I take Prevacid for that now, so I am ok. The Prelief mixes up the best in soda. It fizzes a lot so you have to put one in at a time. I use about 4 in a bottle of soda but then I need it really deaccidified.
That sounds pretty good. I never heard of that kind before. Who makes that ice cream?
That does sound good, although I am not crazy over maple syrup - is that the flavor? I would like the ice-cream part. I love ice-cream!:thumbs_up

Thanks for the suggestions, but I don't like tea. I don't like coffee either. So none of it is going to make this journey any easier. But thanks! :) And yes, I do know what the cowboy drink is. :D How did it taste? I had the soda version of it. You know, the way that it was originally made? It wasn't bad at all.

I have heartburn issues alot of the time. I can take a quick drink of milk and that will help that. But, basically, I stick to the good old Rolaids. I need something that will help me prevent heartburn. I see all of these different things that a person can take before eating/drinking to prevent gas, but I see nothing about heartburn. :( A lot of medications are for after eating but I am not too sure what I could take before meals to prevent heartburn (I pretty much know what does it to me - so I would know when to take it). Yeah, I have heard that about caffeine. Maybe that is also why I am feeling somewhat less active. Who knows? I should look into the different things that you named, though.
But you don't taste the Prelief or Prevacid when you crush it like that?

I've got "issues" with my body at the moment. So I think water is my best substitute for beverages. Seriously, it is getting pretty tiresome. :(
Sorry to hear that! Saw that Janine gave you some suggestions already...
There was something that was advertised quite a lot in the UK for heartburn, but I can't remember the name of it...it might be what you're already have, though...
I'm having a sandwich with possibly the best bread I have found so far in the UK that doesn't cost a bomb and isn't pre-cut.
Why are they no bakeries in this country?!

I'm eating Fruity Dino Bites (which are essentially imitation fruity pebbles). I didn't have any plastic spoons left so I'm using two plastic knives. I am wielding the knives like chopsticks and they form a spoon-like shape towards the end so it works out pretty well. I also have a glass of ice water.

Thanks. I bought a couple of different things the other day. I haven't had Alka Seltzer in a long time. I don't know if they sell that anywhere else. So I don't know if you know what I am talking about, but I am sure other countries have their own version of it, if not that. Basically they are these tablets that you let dissolve in water. I wasn't feeling too spectacular last night. So I took some and I felt fine afterwards. I forgot how well that stuff works. So that may be my cure for any problems that I have for right now. :)
Dark chocolate!
Speaking of heartburn....That is a killer for me. I basically can't touch the stuff. :(

Tonight I shall have ceasar salad and a bottle of demi-sec white wine (possibly Vouvray) and a Miller light beer to finish off because my favourite strong beer is too much with the wine. Most of the drink will be taken whilst watching Kenneth Branagh in a new crime series in which he plays a Swedish detective. It should be a pleasant change from the insult to the intelligence that constitutes the majority of TV series.

I got creative with a pre-measured rice pilaf and Jimmi Dean sausage links, and I feel full in a good way for the first time in days. Since my Quickie P-200 died right before Thanksgiving, my typical physical stresses worsened considerably, and I am not going anywhere for Christmas either.
Although I am still limited by the loaner in ways that might be difficult to explain to able-bodied members, I am slowly adjusting and may even go do my own food shopping later on this afternoon, which will be good for me, but I have been blowing quite a wad on Internet ordering and delivery charges for food and other items, and I know I should buckle down and get back to querying editors, even if I fall on deaf ears (traditional and freelance journalism is in real trouble folks...) but I am just not *there* yet, because I know as soon as I try to get back to normal it will be time to pack temporarily so my studio can be renovated.:rolleyes:
I wish it was 2010, and that barring any catastrophic medical incident (I set my hair on fire in 05 and trust me, you don't want to die cooked like a pork roast:D), that I was past all this, the proficient writer mature enough to meet a few more goals. I am reading Ellison's Invisible Man with my unusual repast and coffee, and I often wonder why he couldn't get another novel out of himself in his lifetime. He would cry out to his sympathizers, in the 1960's, that he was not an Uncle Tom, which some accused him of, since identity politics was coming to a head in those days. I believe him, but I am not sure I understand him. Richard Wright, on whom the nameless IM protagonist is probably based, I get. Toni Morrison, I get, even if I reject, sometimes, her lavish indulgence for suffering. Ellison is more of an enigma to me. This is my breakfast tutorial, I suppose:D.

Marmite? Is that the paste stuff that is made from left over beer dregs or something like that? My friend brought some home as a souvenir from her trip to Australia and New Zealand. She said everyone there eats it but I thought it was disgusting! haha
