How is it a crime?

Isagel

I know we are not supposed to discuss politics - but since I´m not a US citizen I must ask - is i really a crime to state your opinion about religion? Is it possible that nicholasburrus migth have misunderstood something? I thought citizens of the united states held the freedom of speech in high regard, as well as religious freedom. Perhaps Admin can help us out? I´m not trying to start any big debate, I only want to know.

The first amendment protects freedom of speech, which encompasses freedom of religion as well. It is not illegal to talk about one's views on religion in the US, but the patriot act suspends certain rights so that the US can profile potential terrorists both ethnically and racially.

Is it just me or it's getting a little unfriendly around here... so what, I don't agree with you so I'm gonna call you names? I don't want any of you to act hypocraticly (hope that IS a word), just you know, others do have different ideas and opinions, and what a surprise, they have the right to have different opinion, and there IS a nicer way to let somebody know you disagree. Not to be politically correct or whatever, but because we can behave like well, wanted to say adults, not everyone here is an adult, or as a human beings, but then humans (at least some of them) are ehm, acting weird as well... I hope at least someone got my point.

World population-6.33billion, population of the United States of America-292.7million. So population NOT living in America-over 6 billion. percentage of the world not living in america-95.4% MOST PEOPLE??!!! 5% is MOST PEOPLE??!! uhm, I DON'T think so. How can we have the 'same Amendment' if we have a different constitution?

And Jay, I usually understand your posts, but not really that one... Maybe you meant that people should share their ideas without being offensive? I think most people here do. Actually, I don't think I've ever read a really offensive or disparaging comment here regarding others beliefs.

uh... you idiots... it is not a crime to call someone an idiot for their opinions... about anything... it is not a crime to insult someone's opinion. (In the USA that is)... it IS a crime to prohibit people from stating their opinions.

IT IS NOT A CRIME TO make 'bad remarks' about people's religion...

my gosh... some people just don't know what they are talking about... it sure doesn't stop them from talking, though.

imthefoolonthehill
11-30-2003, 01:27 AM
heh... I have fun with it... and if they get offended... well... what kind of genius gets offended by some guy they have never seen telling them they are an idiot? I mean... it would be like getting offended by a telemarketer calling you an idiot.

fayefaye
11-30-2003, 01:40 AM
the one conversation I ALWAYS wanted to have with a telemarketer:
'Yes, I'm very interested with that product. Just give me your home phone number and I'll call you back. Oh? You don't want to give me your home phone number? I guess you don't want to be bothered at home. Well, now you know how I feel.' (rough quote from Seinfeld)

Man, I would LOVE to say that. But telemarketers here are pretty polite-I mean, they irritate the hell out of me, but seeing as how they're stuck in some crummy job where they HAVE to call people up and irritate them makes me so sympathetic that I just can't bring myself to be overtly rude to them. Shame.

As for insulting people.. why yes, that is fun. :)

imthefoolonthehill
12-01-2003, 01:28 AM
I relish those telemarketer calls... there is ALWAYS something fun you can do with them...

One of my personal favorites is to drone on about how you need their product for hours... and then make up lame, but lengthy excuses as to why you would rather they call back tomorrow.

fayefaye
12-01-2003, 08:03 AM
LOL. Yeah, I always really want to mess with them. Play fun little mind games. Give random responses, maybe pretend I'm schizo. 'shhh! You're too loud.' 'oops. sorry' 'No, not you...' *silence* I just have this bugger of a conscience that stops me from doing it. :( Maybe next time. :)

Most illegal immigrants take jobs that most Americans don't want. IE picking fruit for like $2.50 an hour. I admit they need to come here legally and are a drain on american tax dollars but........we need people to do menial work.....

I don't eat at the canadian Mcdonalds. I hate corperations who sell the soul's of their employees to the devil.

Unfortunatly in Canada we have foriegn trained doctors working at minimum wage do to the language barrier and "canadian work expieriance" issues.

What about people who can't get in the front way, so they come in the back? I think the government should just change it's immigration laws, but I'm talking about the country I'm in, and not America. Here people who deserve to get in often don't (refugees, etc) and yet the government will allow any idiot in as long as they have adequate money. (wherever they obtained it) I hate McDonalds. I want to see that company crash and burn. Their foods disgusting, not to mention all the crap they do. Doctors here earn quite a lot too, I've never heard of a doctor working minimum wage in my life.

Stanislaw
12-03-2003, 10:10 PM
The minnimum wage was for doctors who have recently immigrated to Canada but there foriegn credentials are not recognized. It really makes me sad to live in a place that belittles all the beutifle minds that other cultures have to offer.

I think McD's will be gone soon, they are kinda flowndering.

Drs. here whose medical licences they obtain in another country don't necessarily have them recognised here. So, they end up doing menial labour, minimum wage, burger flipping jobs. They're NOT allowed to practice until they pass provincial licensing exams. Makes sense to me.

The problem is there is no international standardisation. Even some Universities from one province to the next here don't recognise another's accreditations.

Stanislaw
12-03-2003, 10:48 PM
It's a very sad situation. I wish a universal degree could be created so people could do the jobs they trained to do.

Why do you guys want McDonalds to crash and burn? I hate their food too... but they employ thousands of workers, and help the economy... if you don't like it, eat somewhere else.

It seems kind of odd to me that people want thousands of people to become unemployed just because they make unheathy and disgusting food... which people pay money to eat.

imthefoolonthehill

Yes, and log huge areas of land on which to graze cattle that are inhumanely slaughtered, thus increasing environmental problems as well as health problems. Oh and who could forget the many varied ways they find to slip fat into people's food. I'm sure that guy on his death bed from that last hamburger is all too comforted that he's helped to maintain some teenager's employment, so that they can use the money to go buy a car.
