is it because we are tired of preparing a face to meet that we meet?
or is it because we love strangers?
do we want to reach out?
are we too much in love with words?
are we desperately trying to communicate?
do we know we exist?

I can't speak for everyone, but I blog for my own amusement. It's not very thought-provoking, or intellectual, but it's something to do. I feel like it's a valid reason for being on the computer, because at least I'm doing something creative.

I also blog in the hope of someone with simliar interests contacting me. I have quite unusual tastes, and I don't know anyone in real-life who shares my interests, but there's bound to be someone on the internet who likes the same things as I do....

I started blogging in 8th grade because I was bored one summer, already had a personal diary, and was the kind of kid who didn't care what other people thought or knew about me and thought it would be cool for my diary to go public. I wrote in it about 3 times a day that summer...

...as I grew and discovered how vast the blogging world was, I admit that I fell into the get-readers-interested trap for awhile; I stopped blogging for me. I created a new blog because I felt that my old one had run dry...I had images and moving stuff and music on it...but it didn't fulfill me the way I wanted.

I am now back to my boring 8th grade blog...and I am much more satisfied. I only write in it very, very rarely...but when I do, it is honest-to-god Shannanigan typing on her computer because she can't find her friggin' journal in her mess of a room...

I like it that way.

i don't really blog, but i have one on friendster. blogging is okay but i prefer keeping a private journal. then again it's not as private because our metonr reads it, but it's only our mentor. i guess we blog because, in journal-keeping sense, it's easire to type in characters than to write those thoughts at high speed.

I have blogged a little bit just because it is fun; it is something of an outlet. You can get your ideas down while incorporating other things into the mix; i.e. visuals, audio, links and such. Merely writing on paper doesn't allow you those avenues.

Blogging is a little way to tickle your creativity and articulate your thoughts.

I know I am desperately trying to do something else beside studying. For the moment. Otherwise I agree with ShoutGrace.

I have a blog at a community site that offers a few things, not just blogs. It is one way I keep connected with some of my online friends. Plus, I get to have fun, to vent about something, even just to write in or post a silly picture if that is all that I am in the mood for.

I've omitted parts of the above to clarify, but all great reasons so far :D

I blog because it's a novelty, a place to post ideas/information for my own reference that I wouldn't otherwise post in the forums but think maybe somebody else might be interested in :p

Why do you blog?

and if you don't...

Why not????

I'm not a big fan of blogging, simply because I find it eliminates human contact. My friends who blog confuse what they've actaully told me with what what they've blogged, and get confused when I have no idea what they're talking about. I don't read their blogs because I see them everyday and figure that we tell each other everything big or small going on in our lives. It's frusterating when I realize that they expect me to keep up with their daily lives by reading about them, rather than talking with them.

Is there any difference with blogging and keeping a journal like Live Journal ?

First to amuse myself as I try to carve out a place for myself in the forums and have some kind of safe, polite interaction with people without all the drama of relationships. Also been theraputic getting some of the inner demons out for inspection. Half-heartedly hoping for some life long friendships to come out of this but have always been awkward with building LASTING relations. Spent too many years in the AF saying goodby and I know I have the shields up. Blogging and posting here and there makes me feel 'safe' and contributing something that might be of value to others. I have discovered a great warmth and respect for people on this forum amongst the posters almost like attending a church without the cliques. Several people in the forum have been most encouraging (whether they realize it or not--for that I thank you all) in my hanging around.
