how many hours a week do you spend watching telly (minus DVDs, video, cinema)

i know I'm sad :)

(hehe, SleepyWitch loves polls and this ties in well with the let's discuss telly thread, so there's a good excuse to have another poll :) )

Oh really I don't watch telivision much, two to four hours in a week usually. If I would, then I would not be able to give much time to computer, books and some other things I love more than telivision though I really don't mind watching it in free time.

yeah,I'm the same
i wouldn't mind watching the telly at all..
but i don't have all that much free time these days, so i spend what free time i have reading, lazing around or doing my other hobbies

a major drawback of German television is also that all foreign programmes get dubbed, i.e. i can't watch English programmes in English, which really sucks... plus there aren't any good German programmes except documentaries
(which I d o like), so there's not much point in watching at all

I prefer the computer. Anyways, I don't think there are many good programs on TV, we only get 12 channels, (if even that), and the antenna is really lopsided because one of the supports gave way a while back, and no one has bothered to fix it. (it's only been a few weeks)

I don't have much time for television. During the year I work all day, go to school until ten at night, then I come home and spend what little time I have left being with the people that matter. This also leaves little time for reading (which I try to do every spare moment). Television, if I am so lucky, comes around during the weekend. But even those hours are taken up with singing and church, family and stuff. I will watch even dvd's in spurts.

The summer offers a little more time though. I catch those mind warping shows like Family Guy and The Simpsons. Not much for reality television, it bothers me. I just recently finished watching Tristen and Isolde last night!!

wow, you've got a pretty tight schedule, grace. what kind of school is that? evening college?
well, most shows are trashy anyway, so you're better off having something meaningful to do :)

I cannot really vote in this poll, because, truthfully, I watch far more than 10 hrs per week; maybe 25-30. This is not my preference, but my GF is very demanding of my time. So while I would rather be reading, writing, or just surfing the internet, these are all very solitary occupations that infuriate her if I continue with them for any extended legnth of time. She needs to be the center of my world, or else the world becomes a very unpleasant place.

That would be zero for me, as I don't own a telly :D
Doesn't stop these telly-license people to rummage my room, though :goof:

hehe, "Schon GEZahlt?" (sorry folks, it's an in-joke)

you can have mine :) i never watch telly at my place... (except for teh world cup these days)... on the other hand... if i give you my telly, the licence-people will find an unlicenced set after all and you'll have to pay a fine...
nah, I can't possibly be involved in criminal acts of this kind

Newcomer Freema Agyeman is to take over from Billie Piper in the third series of Doctor Who, it has been revealed. Agyeman, 27, will play Martha Jones in the next run of the drama, due to start filming in Cardiff this summer.

Regular viewers saw her in last week's episode where she played Adeola, a minor character who suffered at the hands of the Cybermen.

The current series of Doctor Who finishes on BBC One this Saturday and sees Piper leaving the show.

"When I first saw Freema Agyeman she had come in to audition for the part of Adeola in series two," said executive producer and writer Russell T Davies.

"Watching her during filming confirmed what an exciting new talent she was, so under cover of darkness we called her back in to audition with David [Tennant] for the role of the new companion.

"It was an immediate and sensational combination."

Previous roles

Agyeman has previously been seen as Lola Wise in the soap Crossroads, and has had small parts in Casualty and The Bill.

The London-born actress was one of several names rumoured for the Doctor Who role, including singer Rachel Stevens and former Eastenders star Michelle Ryan.

"I've been keeping this secret from my friends for months," said Agyeman. "It's been driving me mad."

"It still hasn't quite sunk in, I'm sure it will slam home first day on set when I'm stood gazing at David Tennant."

Although she has now officially joined the cast, producers say Agyeman will not be featured in this year's Christmas edition of Doctor Who.

"We've got another surprise in store for that," said Davies.

Exit

Piper, the Doctor's current companion, revealed she was leaving the programme last month.

The BBC had refused to comment on reports that her character, Rose Tyler, dies in the final episode of the series.

However, last week's episode opened with a voice-over from the character saying: "This is the story of how I died."

Piper, 23, is currently filming a BBC adaptation of Philip Pullman's Victorian thriller The Ruby in the Smoke.

"Billie rightly built up an amazing fan base and she will be missed," said Agyeman, "but I hope the fans are willing to go on new adventures with me."

OMG I loved The Ruby in the Smoke!! That should be an interesting watch.
Television...i'm trying to cut down, i'd say probably about 5-6 hours a week. If I behave myself. :brow:

All things considered, I'd rather read. It's not fair that the "telly" is right across from my favorite chair, however... http://www.cosgan.de/images/midi/haushalt/b045.gif

I find it hard to believe that someone watches 0 hours of telly a week.... I mean, I understand there are people that don't like to watch much tv, but 0 hours.... well maybe I am wrong

SleepyWitch
07-17-2006, 07:09 AM
hehe, it's pretty easy really Alejandra... you just have to be a very sad and boring person
e.g. i listen to the news on the radio (all news station), so i don't even have to switch the telly on for the news....
most of the time i just can't be bothered to switch the telly on.... when i come home in the evening I normally read, study, rummage around in my flat etc... there's not much time to watch TV really

Can't vote because it fluctuates... it depends only on how many episodes of House I get to see in that week :D

1-2 hours per week...all I watch is Myth busters (1 hr) and maybe an episode of Great biker Buildoff if its on...

But most of my time is spent on the computer, under my hobby car, or at some dingy flee market or comic book shop looking for cool or unusual thing...I'm a bit of a junk collector.

And if I do find time to watch tv then I usually end up watching dvd's (usually old horror / action adventure, or star trek tos or even StarGate SG1 (I've got both series on DVD)) I much prefeer to watch something I know is good, then to sit through 35 minutes of comercials.

I only watch tv when I'm over at my grandparents' house. At home I don't watch any tv, just dvd's. I hate commercials.

Ooops. Per week? I thought it was per day. It didn't say at the top of the poll. Sorry. I meant 1-2 hours per day. Unless there's a baseball or football game on. Then it'll go up. ;)

Same here..I thought it was per day lol
That's why now that I knew it's per week, I'm getting one of those Aha! moments, cuz there's an option of 8-10 hours, that's A LOT for a day if you ask me..lol
Anyways, I voted 4-6 hours  I'm not addicted to TV and I do get off my butt and do things in and out the house, thing is, most of the time, when I'm sitting, it's either infront of the TV or infront of the computer. So my day is sort of divided between those...you ask how many hours I spend on BOTH tv and comp. and it'd be a whole different (scary) story:lol:

I don't have a TV where I live, but if I'm at my parents' place like now I usually watch at least the news and the Simpsons and then it usually takes a while before I get up from the sofa. Or I have TV as a background if I'm cooking. So maybe one hour or slightly more, but well this has been one week in the past 5 months LOL
Sometimes I watch TV shows I'm interested in online.
But I practically stopped following most TV things since I became addicted to the internet...as I said, some people spend their nights watching TV, some people spend them online.
