not sure where to put this, this is my first post, but I just finished reading 1984 and I loooooved! that book, that man has so much insight to human behavior it's jaw dropping. my question was, is The great gatsby as good as 1984? and if so should I read it? I had just heard that its hard to read, but 1984 isn't exactly children's literature either. jsut wonderin tho, anyone who's read it can u give me some help? thnx :)

I haven't read 1984 but The Great Gatsby is well worth reading. There is so much poetry in that book and no, it isn't hard to read.
If you want to read a true American tragedy then go for this book.
Hope that helps.

I've read both, though it's been many years since reading Gatsby. I remember loving it though. It's on my shelf as a future re-read.

Although I liked the way he wrote 1984(which is why I kept reading it), I did not like it by the end. I'm one of those hopeless romantics that like the "humanity will prevail" endings even if people have to die.

I should re-read Great Gatsby. The only memory I have of it is dullness...
