For my English class I am writing and eassy about how the health of the characters affects the story. I would like some help. I don't need some more examples of health in the story and quotes would be very nice.

I have that Lockwoods illness kept him at Wuthering Heights so that Nelly Dean could finish her story.

Catherine getting sick and dieing (here is where I need more on how this affected the story)

And Linton's sickness...

any ideas?

thanks

I always thought that Cathy's death was key in understanding Heathcliff. He has to deal not only with Cathy's rejection of him and her marriage to another man, in addition to ultimately losing her once again to death itself. I will try to get some quotes to support this position soon.

You could say that Edgar's illness and death allow Heathcliff to take Cathy to Wuthering Heights, and force her to marry Linton. Also, Nelly's illness means that Cathy and Linton can exchange letters without her knowing about it. Good luck with the essay. ;) I just did my exam on this novel, so I've been there myself.

Catherine's dieting isnt so much dieting as it is fasting and starving. It is a sort of punishment. Isbella does this too in Chapter 10 when she refuses her breakfast.

Hindely's wife falls sick of consumption, Isabella herself falls sick, and the ongoing sickness of Linton Heahtcliff could be examined.

Hindley's violent alcoholism could be thought of as a sickness.

It's easy enough to find quotes for this.
