Isn't it worthwhile to think that
We be strangers once again?
If that'll abate the hurricane,
If that'll alleviate the pain?
In the first days of our meeting
We were so formal, so respectful
No possessiveness, no complaints
No hard feelings, no constraints
What made us so close that
We had a plethora of altercations?
What made us so blind that
Accepting each other led to frustrations?
We started as friends, on a positive note
With lots of joy, lots of laughter
Somewhere somehow we had an accident
And we were never the same thereafter
Yet there were moments when
We saw sparks of the earlier glory
Had we sustained the old friendship,
It would have been a different story.
So let's be strangers once again
Without the past coming in our way
Without getting too close to each other
Without a clash marring our day
We be strangers once again?
If that'll abate the hurricane,
If that'll alleviate the pain?
In the first days of our meeting
We were so formal, so respectful
No possessiveness, no complaints
No hard feelings, no constraints
What made us so close that
We had a plethora of altercations?
What made us so blind that
Accepting each other led to frustrations?
We started as friends, on a positive note
With lots of joy, lots of laughter
Somewhere somehow we had an accident
And we were never the same thereafter
Yet there were moments when
We saw sparks of the earlier glory
Had we sustained the old friendship,
It would have been a different story.
So let's be strangers once again
Without the past coming in our way
Without getting too close to each other
Without a clash marring our day
