You want to write a poem. You have the talent. Don't know what to write about anymore. You feel like writing, but you don't know about what? What do you do?

Go to the poetry contest. A picture is presented by the last winner. Everyone who wants to participate writes a poem based on the picture. After a few weeks the judge picks a winner. Go, participate.

Me? I know what you mean.. I have a lot of those moments. I would normally follow these steps.
(1) Think of a topic that really hits close to my heart
Then begin to write if something comes to me
(2) Put on a random music station. Not a station I listen to, but one out of completely random. Listen to some of the things they talk about and some of their music.
Begin to write if something comes to me
(3) Call someone that I once wrote a poem about and try to have a meaningful conversation with them.
If I get some ideas begin to write
(4) Just don't write until one day when Im in a mood and just write a poem to get my thoughts out.

I hope I could help you out... Those are just my steps... I hope you can maybe put them to use.

When I first posted this, I thought I would get no replies. I really wanted to write, but felt a little despondent, I guess. I didn't want to write a troubled poem. The responses I got from all of you were nice and hopefully very helpful. Thank you Jenna for elaborating on what you would actually do. I will definitely try to write soon. The picture posted for the poetry contest is rather nice; It may inspire a thought or two.

Molto grazie,

Ciao

Hello, Royalmoons, and welcome to the forum! :)
For this precise problem, from which many of us intermittently suffer from (the dreaded "writer's block"), I began a thread some time ago, which you may find here (http://www.online-literature.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4098) - it provides some good ways to get the creative juices flowing, so to speak, and I hope you may benefit from it, too.
