Holy cats! This little contest seems to have gotten a bit intense. The voting should be interesting this month...

This is certainly an interesting crop. Good call on the intensity; I dug the suspense of a lot of these. This'll be a good competition. Viva variety!

After one week of voting we have a clear leader that has twice the votes of any of its compition

Why is voting so slow. I read them all in about half an hour.

Beats me. I guess people wanna take their time to let the stories soak in.

I just read them in about a half hour as well...and I am having SERIOUS trouble choosing here. I'm glad I can't see the poll....because if one is way ahead of the game, I can't tell which one it would be. I'm really trying to vote with an all-over idea of a good quality short story, not just plot and ending....but these are all really good....

Shannanigan
06-07-2006, 11:27 AM
Well hardy-har har on the twice as many votes....:p shouldv'e read into that sarcasm more, I guess....

That was a really hard vote, but all of the stories are great, though all have room for improvement....is it just me, or did the voting go faster last time around?

Oh, I can't seem to open the file. An error occurs whenever I try that Internet Explorer is not being able to open from this site. Is it happening with anyone else too?

Try to save it to disk and then open it in Word, Wordpad or Notepad. You can also ask Logos All Mighty to send it to you by mail. Asa, why didn't you help her??

But I too would suggest Pensive that you save it to disk then open it with WordPad or Notepad, because you are not getting a pop-up screen asking you what you want to do with it?

Oh, I am getting a pop-up screen asking me what I want to do with it but then when I try to download/open it, it can not open and an error come that internet explorer is not able to open the requested site because it is either unavailable or can not be found and try again later. I have tried a lot but doesn't work... I was waiting that it might be for some time but it seems like that there is a problem with it.

download it first then try to open it. It could be some security software on your system is preventing IE from interfacing with MS WORD because of the possibility of MS Word documents containing macro viruses.

Pensive> see if you can open them after clearing your temporary internet files or on your brother's computer. If not, we will try to figure something out.

Has voting slowed down, or are people just still reading?I think it sounds about right... Last month, we had 27 votes, which is more or less 1 vote a day and at the moment we have 9 votes already! :D

But we do need more votes! Come on, LitNetians!

Has Robin mistaken this for the "Questions Only" thread?  You have the right to vote, use it or lose it, I always say. I was unfortunately sick during the May voting, but I won't miss another, if I can help it. ;) Just back from Holiday yesterday, and the votes haven't gone up by much, although the views have. there were 28 votes last time, where is everyone?

ShoutGrace

I wanted to take my time and decide between two of them . . .

Are we allowed to talk about the submitted stories in this thread?

Jay
06-21-2006, 07:38 AM
That would be a no, ShoutGrace :). If the authors wish to receive feedback for their stories, they can re-submit them in the General Writing subforum (unless they happen to be the author of the winning story, of course ;))

Pendragon

there were 28 votes last time, where is everyone? This is a literature forum so I guess they are Gone With the Wind! Hee-hee! ;) Seriously, if everyone who's read the stories voted, (provided it's not like me, everyone's read them a couple times each ), there would be more votes!

Hi grace,

Yes, the poll closes on June 30th. You have about 10 days to read the stories and vote. There is a good selection so I am sure you will have a great time, reading them. :)

hehe, my "word" just revealed the author of one of the stories to me coz it switched its language options to the authors mother tongue.... oooops,... don't worry, i'm gonna keep shut...
but maybe the mods could set the language to English for all documents?

can we have a "guess who wrote what story" thread at the end of the year?

Scheherazade
06-28-2006, 05:33 PM
It is up to individual members whether they would like to reveal their identities and also open up their stories for criticism so we will wait until they decide to come forward (or not :))

Going once...

ok.. i thought it was against the rules because ppl might vote for their friends instead of judging the story??? of course, the authors can't reasonalby be expected to foresee "word's" caprices... so that's why i suggest the mods might open the documents when they come in and make sure it says "English" at the bottom
well, never mind :)

Scheherazade
06-29-2006, 07:03 PM
The contestants are not supposed to reveal their identities during the voting. However, if they choose to do so, they can post their story and ask feedback once the voting is over.

All the stories are read before they are posted here but there might be incidents that we might overlook things. I am not sure what you are refering to exactly so would you like to PM me about the 'Word caprice' you are referring to? Thanks :)

Going twice...

Congratualtions to the writer of 'The Killing Word', the winner of June '06 elimination and will take part in the finals.

The writers of the other stories can post their stories for reviews by Forum members if they would like to.

I would like to thank both writers and those members who take the time to read and vote! :)
