I was looking for something to read in my school library today, and came across a copy of 'The Tin Drum'. I'd heard of the film before, and I know the basic plot-line, but much else. I decided against taking it out in the end, but I'm still interested in reading it.
Is it worth reading? Will I enjoy it, or should I wait a few years before reading it (I'm fourteen)?
I'd appreciate some advice, as I can't make up my mind whether I should take it out or not.
Jump right in. It's a great, funny, strange, subversive book, and and beautifully written. If you're basic literacy is up to scratch, which it seem to be, you should have no trouble with it.

Thank you for the advice. I'll read it. :)
Glad to hear it and glad to be of help. Anything for a Damned fan.;)

I know this is off-topic, but wow. I didn't think there were any other Damned fans on here.

I've long been a fan of The Damned (in most senses). I once stood next to Rat Scabies at the urinals in the toilets of the Stowaway Club (I think) in Newport, South Wales. He was the drummer, so technically this isn’t entirely off-topic. ;)

My mum converted me a few years ago, and I've been an obsessive fan ever since. I saw them when they played in London in November, and I got Captain Sensible to sign my CD, which was the highlight of my year!
I've never met Rat Scabies, but back in the 70s my mum was introduced to him through a friend.

Do you look anything like him? Just curious. :brow:

Haha, no. Apart from anything else, she would have met him circa 1979, which would have made me...27 years old? :o

:) The first and second gigs I ever went to were Damned gigs, both at Hammersmith Palais in 1983 - when I was 14.
P.S.
you're basic literacy
This is so embarrassing. :p

My first gig was, er, Busted. But I was 11 and stupid and had bad taste in music. My taste in music has improved drastically since then.
I wish I could say that my first gig was The Damned instead...
Oh well...can't rewrite the past. Those three years do seem to make a lot of difference. if I could have gone to a gig when I was 11 it would have been Kiss.
