Hi,

I read a few of the posts on here with regards to Ralph Emerson's "Self Reliance", but could not find what I was looking for. I have decided to do an essay on some of Ralph Emerson's and Thoreau's literature work, but I need more help understanding the work before I can continue.

I am looking for at least four different "principles" which are claimed by Emerson in Self Reliance. I am also looking for principles from Thoreau's "Civil Disobedience" and "Walden" in which I can compare them to.

If anybody here has done any of these essays, maybe you can help me

Emerson stated at least four "principles" in "Self-Reliance". Reread it and take notes. I haven't read Thoreau in a long time, but "Civil Disobediance" has some similarity with "Self Reliance".

A good place to cheat is to go to Sparknotes. Google it and there is a complete explanation. However, I would first read or reread the text and go from there. These two essays are not that hard to understand, just take your time and don't get frustrated when you get to a part that sounds like it is from the Bible or Shakespeare.

Good luck!
