I don't think anyone in this book deserves pity really. all the characters are depressed with petty reasons. why can't we read something positive like Star Wars or Dr. Suess? this guy's funny.

Wolfester- Yeats said it best: A pity beyond all telling is hid in the heart of love. Look deeply into the literature as a love story. I'll do the same for Star Wars the next time I see it.

what is love other than a series of chemical reactions in the brain?

Love? I think it is as much about desperation borne of enui. Wuthering Hights that is - not love per se. Although I am sure that there many instances of love being engendered in this way!
