Wheat?

Okay, I am in the part of the book where they create the mill for the "wheat" yet I do not ever remember them finding wheat seeds or something such as that. I remember that they have corn, now are they just calling the corn wheat? I am incredibly confused, 'cause all I can think of is they are making corn-bread but that isn't what they are calling it. Anyone help me with this? I don't know if I can continue without this being cleared up :bawling:

Haven't they found wheat in herbert's pocket? I've read it a while ago, so i can be mistaken

No, that was corn actually. Unless my copy is wrong though.

No, it is wheat. Your copy must be wrong, because in the French edition (I'm French) it's definitely wheat. That's why just before he relates that (the wheat in Harbert's pocket), Verne says the only thing they missed was bread.

That's peculiar. In my version it also said corn, and I'd also questioned the "wheat mill".

My version is:

And I'm positive that it said corn on several occasions. Only did it turn to wheat, when they mentioned the Mill.

From the text on the site, the first mention of corn is in Ch. 20:

Aha! That is definitely a mistranslation, you don't have grains of corn, it is a kernel of corn. -nods- Also anyone know where there might be an online French version of this book?

The copy of Mysterious Island I have is dated 1918. The wheat seeds were discovered in the trunk that "mysteriously" washed up on the beach. The trunk also contained tools, guns, etc. A corn kernal was found in Hebert's pocket.
