perhaps he would be called a "re-Historian"... or a "re-Historical Editor"... a fact-unchecker... an editorial revisionist? A dis-proofreader?.... a re-Republican speechwriter?... A Rovian Analyst?

In fact no - he is and always will be a member or the outer party, and the "proof" of point is the passage in the end, he 'suddenly loves BB' which O'Brian has told him will be the day they vaporise him, because as long he is not repentant, as long as he holds any hostility towards BB he will not be killed. But we see in the end that the final bit of brainwashing takes its effect and at we are left at that point with the inference that he will now be vaporised.

Winston's job now a days would be someone that rewrites things to make them seem better. It would be like propaganda.

In the book Winston rewrites things to make the "Party"(government) look good. It is all a lie or propaganda.

I think that if Winston Smith's job was transported to the present day it would probably be called a "spin doctor" or, as was said above, a politition's speech writer some kind of Civil Servant who serves his party's version of the truth.
