i read this fantastic poem by unamuno whose name i forget now..it was indeed great...something like eliot's gerontion

I'm from Spain, so I had to read Unamuno in school and highschool. I don't remember the poem you're referring to, but if I can locate it maybe we can comment on it

hello bastet
the poem i was referring to goes something like this:
el suenan o cristo
el muerte la vela

and then i remember bits and pieces of the english translation:
...watches the bloodless man from the cross
watches the white moon(blanca luna) while the earth sleeps in deathly silence
...
well this is what i remember.if you can find more about it, do let me know.

Hello Holdencaulfield, I know the poem you were talking about. It is called "El Cristo de Velazquez" (Velázquez's Christ) and it was written in 1920 and talks about the Christ painted by Velázquez ("Cristo crucificado") in the year 1632.
