What a big shame!!! The Romanian language seems so interesting and there are so many Romanians here and I even have Romanian friends though they've lived here for 10 years already... any recommendations???

Well, it's very hard to recommend you something , it depends on what you prefer reading, but I can tell you the names of some Romanian writers: Mihail Sadoveanu, Ionel Teodoreanu, Liviu Rebreanu, Mihai Eminescu.

I've been trying to find some books by Romanian writers as of late also. Thanks for the list of authors Simona. I've been running a few internet searches and came across a writer by the name of Dumitru Radu Popescu. Have you read any of his works? From what I've gathered, it seems that his collections of short stories under the title "The Blue Lion", is highly regarded. I'll have to keep my eyes peeled for that one.

It's great to be able to learn about international writers, thank you! :) By the way, Slipperyyoke, great quote by Cervantes! ;) I'm from Spain and it was great to come across it!

I'm awfully sorry and ashamed because I don't know nothing about Dumitru Rdu Popescu. I haven't read his work but perhaps I have an excuse: all this time I've been reading classical authors, that now are dead. Any way, if you want to know something else about Romanian literature just ask me, and perhaps I'll be able to help you this time.

I have heard of Dumitru Radu Popescu. He is considered one of the most fine Romanian authors and I have even read a piece of theatre written by him, named ,,England''. I haven't read too much of him, but I know he is a contemporary author and had written a lot of pieces of theatre(one of them in romanian called ,,Duios Anastastia trecea'') which has also been adapted on the screen. He won a lot of prizes. :) watch over here some information http://romania-on-line.net/whoswho/PopescuDumitruRadu.htm

Also, if you would like reading Romanian literature, I can recommend you Mircea Cartarescu, probably the best contemporary authors from Romanian Literature. He had written poetry: Levant probably the best and prose: Dazzling,Nostalgia. He is an postmodernist writer.
