I just heard that Polish Sci-fi wizard Stanislaw Lem passed away today. Probably best known for 'Solaris' which was recently filmed with Gerge Clooney (and previously, much better in Russian) and the wonderful 'Cyberiad'.
Another good'un gone.
Here's (http://www.usatoday.com/life/people/2006-03-27-lem-obit_x.htm?POE=LIFISVA) a brief obit (warning - turn on pop-up blocker first!)

It is truly a tragic loss. Stanislaw Lem, was one of the greatest authors to ever put pen to paper. May God bless his soul.
It is a sad day for all fans of literature the world over.

He was really a great writer. I've enjoyed "Solaris" and Tarkovsky's movie that was based on it is magnificent.
A big loss for the world literature and especially for Poland

I like his novels very much. 'Solaris', 'Return From the Stars' (Powrót z gwiazd), 'Tales of Pirx the Pilot' (Opowieści o pilocie Pirxie) are the masterpieces of science-fiction literature.
He was (and always be) one of my favourite writer. And he was born in Poland, like me.
