well, Ive been on this forum for just some while. And Ive also been reading quite a few posts and posting some as well. Many of us know each other but many do not....i guess we will come round doing that as well!!!
However, what I find extremely interesting is the wide variety of SIGNATURES used by all of us. Im sure we find something which touches us somewhere and we incorporate it in our lives.
What i want is for all of us to write in here is why we have chosen our particular SIGNATURES? When and How did we come across it? And you can say what u like about your own SIGNATURE.
To add to that....you may also say who else's Signature you like and why?
I guess this will enable us to know each other better!!!
So Happy Posting!!!!!!

hullo,
hey precious Adil, hugs, kisses and one extra for your day.

I chose my signature because although I am basically a loner in the non virtual world(I actually make my friends make appointments to see me-they are fine with that for they too are so busy), although I am I value deeply the love of a close friend. And I believe that when you commit to someone, invest of yourself to give to another that it should be thru good times and bad through thick and then and even if that means to the death.
I wept and wept and wept at that scene when all looks totally hopeless. Especially at such a time it is important to be, if one can, with the person that you have connected most deeply with in your life, then even dying can be beautiful.

My signature changes on a farily regular basis. It is just about always a quote. In fact it is probably time to change it again now.

My current signature features the first lines of a song from my favourite band, Depeche Mode, and perfectly describes the phase of my life I'm in. I've had this signature since November I think, and I still don't feel like changing it.

The second part is my favourite quote from the Chocolate Factory movie :D I love chocolates and sweets and I went on repeating that sentence to my brother and my mum for days, and then I found online the trailer of the movie in English so I had the original quote to put here :D

Astraddle on the dolphin's mire and blood/Spirit after spirit!

The above is from Yeats' "Byzantium" and to me is the perfect image of a mortal man striving for the eternal.

What's madness but nobility of soul/At odds with circumstance?

This second quote is from Theodore Roethke's "In A Dark Time." While Roethke is specifically speaking about insanity, I feel it applies to all adversities.

I've been thinking of adding another, but we'll see.

I use three quotes on different forums I participate in. Here I use the one from Doyle that in essense explains Sherlock Holmes. It also is the basis for troubleshooting a problem. On other forums I use a quote from Groucho Marx "One mornig I shot an elephant in my pyjamas...." On others I use a line from a Pink Floyd song "Shorter of breathe and one day closer to death..." They all appeal to me in one way or another.

My first is a quote I saw quoted in a book, so I don't really know the context. But I like the sentiment.

My second is from a Beck song called "Cyanide Breathmint" that is very good. I like the philosophy.

My third is from H of D, and although I still have not finished the novella, now that I have it in print, not online, I will. I like the message in context with the title of the work.

I'm not sure of the Stevenson context either, but you know he ran for the presidency at least twice and lost convincingly both times. I always took that quote as sour grapes, but again I don't know the context.

Yeah, shows what an intellectual can accomplish in politics during times of paranoia.

I always choose a baseball quote because the sport is a big part of my life. I started watching games with my dad when I was seven years old and have loved it since. It's a love that my dad and I still share. He once got a little book of all these baseball quotes and put it in his car and everytime I rode with him I'd read out a quote (or ten.) Eventually, I memorized the whole book. So now I put baseball quotes in my signature :)
Baseball, in my eyes, is a sport of perfect balance--between power and grace, the team and the individual. It's an art of precision and movement. And good nelly, those hot dogs.

I recently switched to the one I'm using now after I was reminded of the word "ineffable" in another thread. I love words like that, plus there's a nice little doublespeak in "eff the ineffable" and "F*** the ineffable!" Everything's ultimately effable, I guess.

My previous signature was from Harry Potter And The Order Of Phoenix by JK Rowling.

"Wit Beyond Measure Is Man's Greatest Treasure"

And my present signature is from Lord Of The Rings by Tolikien - The Great

"I Sang Of Leaves, Of Leaves Of Gold And Leaves Of Gold There Grew"

Whenever, I am in a bad mood, I say: "I Sang Of Leaves, Of Leaves Of Gold And Thorns There Grew"

Ours' comes from Karl Ristikivi, an Estonian poet and writer.
We like its' existential touch and the connection to dreams.

I slept too long;
my dreams were too heavy
and now i do not remember
why I awoke

Mine is from Salman Rushdie. I'm not 100% sure of the context but I believe it was from a press conference or statement that he made in response to the reaction to "The Satanic Verses". My avatar shows the alternative to Rushdie's sentiments - nazis burning books - by way of contrast.

Xamonas--I've been wondering for awhile exactly what was going on in your avatar, but I thought it looked fairly ominous for some reason. Now I know why.

My signature is from the first poem in Petrarch's rime sparse. I recently posted the full poem on the introductions thread if you're curious. I chose it as a compliment to my screen name.

Oh my that's why it sounded SO familiar... Well I knew it was Petrarca but I never linked it to the first one... Now I recall everything, I loved that poem, and the school times when I felt I was a poet (that feeling has been olst over the years) and I had dreams and ideals.. Wow it's been ages

Xamonas, I love your sig too.
