I recently bought the Collected Poems from amazon. She didn't write too much, so you can get this complete collection fairly cheaply.

Most of her most famous poems are in the collection Ariel, which has recently been re-issued in a restored version, with the poems in Plaths original order and with some extras, including a facsimile of some of her working drafts. I browsed this in a bookshop and it is a lovely book. I opted for the complete texts for the same price though.

If you did not enjoy The Bell Jar, you will probably not enjoy her poems. However, you *should* at least try to read them. I agree with XC, Ariel is her classic collection of poems and would be a great place to start. And, if that doesn't do it for you, move on to something that better suits your interests! Plath isn't for everyone...

Well, it does say in her userinfo that her favorite author is Sylvia Plath, and that she enjoys researching Sylvia Plath, so I bet Sylvia Plath is for her. :D

Sally Rose,

You also say in your profile that "The Bell Jar" is your favourite book but apparently, from your comments above, you hate it! What terrible emotions do you reserve for your least favourite books?

This looks like a classic case of inconsistenciosis. The only known treatment is to GET A GRIP WOMAN!

Methinks that *some* people around here are (merely?) trying to wind others up..

Okay then, if you do like Sylvia Plath, consider this book your favorite, and enjoy researching her, yet hate The Bell Jar, I would suggest thinking about why you hate it. Perhaps that may be one emotional response Plath was trying to evoke from the reader. So, why do you hate and love it at the same time???

Plath's poetry is very interesting to discect and discuss. She embodies the struggling woman in the 1950s. America did not have a place for a woman to be a poet, a mother, and a wife all at the same time. Her anguish is often expressed through her poems.
I did not enjoy her poetry until I began discussing it. It helps to know her biography when it comes to understanding the poems. I believe Daddy is my favourite.
