Hi Guys & Girls
I'm from South Africa & need help badly!!!
My teacher gave me the following question to complete:
All people on earth can use Animal Farm as a yardstick to measure the society in which they live what lessons/warnings are there in animal farm for all of us in South Africa.
I guess you could substitute your own country in place of South Africa.
Please Help!!!

Well i guess one of the warnings there could be is that after a while even people with the best intetntions can get 'drunk with power' and that in some cases there's no use trying to fight the system as if you do then it will just come back to u, a bit like karma really. Anyway, i hope you found this a little helpful. :-)

Hello Whimsy.

I'll try to help you as much as I can.

The warning that animal farm gives is that Communism is a failed society, because it does not take into accounts that Humans are prone to error, therefor prone to corruption when power is taken.
In terms communism is simply a form for one government to take place of the other, using the proletariat as a cudgel against the other.
As often with the case Communism arose, and arises from mainly poor countries where certain men of influence promise the people the ideals in the communist manifesto, and thereby get the backing of the people.
It is however very rare, that once those members in power, assume that power that they can actually run a successful government under the Communist model, such as, that Communism despite its enticing promises equals even more misery for the many, while the few in power will do everything they can to keep that power.

So what then could it hold for South Afrika?
Well South Afrika is somewhat unstable in its government makeup, and there is always chances with instability that facist, or Communist parties will form where a coup de tat can be arranged.
It is of great importance then, that South Afrikans like al other world people, be discerning enough to see the former failures of Communism, and more over the failures of Human government, IE Prone to corruption, such and such.
We must then be extremely careful of whom we elect, because despite their promises they might turn out to be quite different once in power.
And the fact, that once in power, wicked men will do anything possible to stay there.

I hope this has helped you out a little bit.
What part of South Afrika do you live in?

Orwell is not simply condemning Communism but all tyrannical, unjust or corrupt systems and their abuses of power. Even Christianity comes in for criticism. Orwell would be unhappy with those who seek to use his book simply as a piece of anti-communist propaganda.
