Did you ever write a novel or a short story? What was its name? It does not matter if it is still incomplete.
I started "Pensive" two weeks ago and I have only only completed two chapters and I daresay that I don't think that I will be able to complete it. :p
The only completed story of mine is "Mina, My Savior" which was totally rubbish.

Rubbish? Rubbish I can present you with. :D
I once wrote a novel which had about a 100 pages and was rubbish too. ;)
Right now, I've got two or three (or four) stories that I'm writing on.

I've completed over 20 short stories (95% rubbish) and have about another five which I've not finished yet and may never go back to.
I've never written a novel although I've got an idea and hope to start this year.

3 short stories in production (1 nearly finished, 2 about halfway) - all in need of major re-working - I try and finish before I begin rewrites, but some nights I do nothing but rework the bits I've done already.
1 children's fairy-story - about 1/3 done - my oldest niece is just about the right age for it now, so I may have to hurry.
1 novel - synopsis & numerous notes/character sketches - most of chapter 2 and bits of other chapters more-or-less written. No title yet! Xamonas Chegwé is a central character though, in case anyone wondered where my name came from.
Dozens of other novels & short-stories abandonned over the years. With good reason in the main!

OH, several over the years, starting when I was about 8. I think they are completely unpublishable but it's fun to read them after it's been a while. I have one started right now, about an old man who keels over in a stranger's yard, by doing so starts a friendship between the old man's son and the woman whose yard it was....it's going nowhere I fear.
I wrote a couple of short screen-plays in college. That was fun.

When in grade school I used to write stories that involved big spacebattles. I took several pages just to describe the opposing fleets, and even more pages to descirbe the actuall battle. The story often got lost along the way. But in the end it was all rubish.
Apart from those big spacebattles, which only had a really thin story, I've written a few short stories, as in really short, only one or two pages. The best one had a shifting persective, starting with the writer's perspective, and ending up with the main character forgetting himself. Unfortunatelly it got lost in the biggest hard drive crash of the century. At least for me it was the biggest crash of the century, only one too.

Finished a novelette of which I'm very proud and am constantly revising. Several short stories over the years, of varying degrees of mediocrity. A movie script in the works that, in retrospect, is in need of a MAJOR overhaul. A handful of short scripts for various projects here and there. And a comic book in very early stages.

I am working on a novel I suppose you could say. I ask all persons who receive emails from me to save them and eventually when I think I have screwed up my life enough I will ask them to be emailed back, I'll go through and organize them as they got alot of bizarre stuff in them, not to mention the ones written intoxicated. Most of them are filled with tangents and tirades, but also friends and conflicts and lust and whatnot, so you got all the major elements of a plot in my own life, I'll just add some fiction to jazz it up and boom a novel of the new age.

Not a novel, but I have been working on a poem for nearly 8months now - it has been written, torn up, re-written, burned & currently sits in my head mocking me.

Wow, you guys are really fast at writing. Along with "Pensive" I have also started a novel whose name I have not decided yet but it is a time-travel fiction. I am not getting whether to use time machine or magic and so I have written only one chapter of this novel yet. Like "Pensive" I don't think so that I will ever be able to complete it. When I start to write something, I start having so many ideas but I become unable to express them. Even if I am able to translate them accurately, they do not show my real emotions and it hurts a lot. *confused*

I'v been through that enough times to have a personal anthology of poems that were a pain to write. Once in a while its a littl rewarding though. I'v written one short story ... it was good when I wrote it but since then I have taken a course on "The short story" and suddenly its terrible.

yep, I've always wondered about that :) what language/cultural background is the name from? is the X pronounced like 'ks' or like 'z'?
I'm working on a novel (well, not working on it right now, really). it's got 4 chapter so far and it's (working-) title is "Making Sense". dunno if it's rubbish, i tend to think so but my best friend seems to like most of it so far.
got another one up my sleeve but it'll take for ever to write them because I've got so many other (stupid) things to do :(

For the benefit of Sleepy Witch and anyone else that is interested in how to pronounce a made up name! ;)
The 'X' is pronounced like the 'ch' in 'loch'.
The stress in the first word is on the second syllable, which has a hard 'o', like in 'don'.
Both 'a's are also hard, as in 'cat'.
Chegwé rhymes with segué and the 'ch' is sounded like the one in 'chess'.
So now you know.

how does one really tell if his/her work is rubbish? Coz i'm working on something, a graphical novel to be exact, still on the script though, was thinking of publishing it (how courageous ) so can i say to myself now that i'm working on rubbish and stop? or continue on and wait for reviews to bash me  :D

The only way is to show it to someone who is totally honest (your Granny will probably tell you it's brilliant even if it's not).
There are several writers sites that you could post it on to get some feed back.

now on topic:
I have written several short stories, mostly humerous or satiracal, I've only written three which I thought were not complete crap.
I started writing a political - econonimcs book, but I still have not completed it, it is really odd, and feature a sort of blending of marxism, and extreme capitalism, with a modified democratic idea, and forced utopianism, in short, I think I will probably never finish it.
I am currently working on 3 non-fiction books now: one on realigious theory and computer science, an instructional guide for learning/teaching basic computing skills to imigrants and sceniors, and the third is a treatise on political equality in realation to economic well being.
And to top it off I am mulling over the developmental stages of a pseudo-scifi story about the possibilities of another group of beings on this planet.
I enjoy writing non-fiction, to me my fiction always seems like shallow bs.
Maybe oneday I will actually publish something. :D

yep, some unfinished novels (around six, or so, but only one is progressing :p) and loads of short story. i knew exactly what the stories were about (which mainly started by events that occured to me and the story grew wider), and i just develop the details. but loads of times i forgot the brilliant (slash complete rubbish) details, so the story didn't make any sense anymore. there goes the point where i call it rubbish :)), Chaw.

Bleh... I have many:
The Murderer... my first... which is also complete rubbish... but hey it's my first... I can't expect it to be perfect
The Snow... that one's a bit better... I've posted both of these on this site... The Murderer being my first post. This one was inspired by the idea of perspectives... how something may be seen differently from a different point of view
Then the other one's A Poem of Virtue: Hope, based on Hope... a sort of... description of what it is or something... you've read it :)
In making... well... I've a lot... of ideas that is... I've started on the Final Dream... but... bleck... meh... I'll probably never finish. I'm just not good at executing ideas because of laziness and stuff... ._. I hate that though... but it's just so hard to go against it. Nevertheless ideas don't stop coming at all, I just don't want to state them because by doing that the fun is spoiled. I can state the title though:
A Poem of Virtue: Reliability
A Poem of Virtue: Friendship
How the Falling of a Petal causes War
All of these are poems... good thing I'm writing these ideas down because sometimes I forget (the title immediately just... "sparks" my memory though). If only I could write stories as quick as I can come up with ideas...

I've always been reading and writing fiction. Recently, I was cleaning through a stack of elementary school papers I was saving for whatever reason, and I found no less than five short stories that I had a good laugh over.
Of course, I've written a lot since then for fun, for English class, and last year's creative writing class. Actually, a short holiday poem I wrote for that class won a school district-wide contest and was published in the teachers' yearly Christmas cards. As a result I got a gift card for Barnes & Noble for $10. It is ironic that that's the only thing I've written that got recognized for anything, since I dislike writing poetry. I love doing short stories, though, and I have plenty of them. About a year and a half ago I started on my first novel, which will probably take me a long time to finish. I'm pretty pleased with the way it's turning out so far, and I may try to publish it when it's all written and revised.

Hey Rodwen, Good luck with them! I hope that you will finish them as soon as possible.
If those are short stories, you can submit any of them to LitNet Town Crier as well. For more details, you need to visit that thread.

I have done some writing, none too long, but then again, I'm your age Pensive. I want to write books, and write all my ideas down. I imagine the stories all the time. It's actually kind of ridiculous, but once I actually finish something I don't think it's rubbish. I have a friend who wrote practically a whole fantasy novel and sent it to me. Someday, I'll write my stories. :D

Hopefully, me too.
Hope is the thing with feathers,
That perches in the soul,
Sings the tune without words,
And never stops at all! :D
